Olde Towne East is known for historic homes and neighborhood pride
If you drive down the streets of Olde Towne East, you might think that time has stopped. It’s an eclectic neighborhood with historic houses. The neighborhood was formed in the late 19th century as one of the first suburban areas of Columbus. At the time, affluent politicians and businessmen lived there. Today, it’s a chance to own a historic house. “Living here, it has a sense of neighborhood pride. People have been living here for decades, and they wouldn’t think of living anywhere else,” says Misty Linn, the owner and Realtor with Core Realty Collection. She’s been a resident of this neighborhood since 2005.
House renovations are underway for many areas
Whether it’s Victorian, Queen Anne or Colonial Revival, you’ll see home styles you rarely see. “You have old brick homes built over 100 years ago that are still standing,” Linn says. “You get a lot of space for the homes, between 2800 and 5000 square feet.” Those homes are on display as you drive down Bryden Road, a designated Historic District. Revitalization in the area is taking place, with the historic structures being restored to their original state. The price ranges vary between $300,000 to close to a million dollars for some multi-family units. There are still charming homes over a century old off Bryden Road. Most have between 1500 and 3000 square feet with full basements.
East High School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places
When kids aren’t enjoying splashing around or enjoying a neighborhood playground, they’re attending Columbus Public Schools. Niche says that Ohio Avenue Elementary School has a student-to-teacher ratio of 17-to-1. Champion Middle School is designated a Health Science Academy, meaning it focuses monthly on health information and practices—the school even partners with science professionals for occasional hands-on learning opportunities. In 2008, East High School was renovated. A new gymnasium and atrium were built, but the exterior stayed true to the original architecture. The school was built in 1921 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Public parks have spraygrounds, tracks and basketball courts
While the homes get the attention in Olde Towne East, there’s still plenty to do outside your house. The kids will love the sprayground at Blackburn Park. It’s an interactive water-themed space. Kids can cool off on those hot summer days by running through and activating a fountain, which instantly provides relief. The park also has a playground with a climbing structure and a slide. The Blackburn Community Center provides an indoor track and basketball court when the weather turns colder. There are also designated rooms for practicing arts and ceramics. The Kwanzaa Playground is part of Lincoln Park and was created as a joint effort between the neighborhood and the City of Columbus. Artists around the area designed the space with images based on the theme, "It takes a village to raise a child.”
Lifestyle Cafe has vegan, sustainable cuisine
In a historic neighborhood, a unique restaurant has an eye on the future. The Lifestyle Café focuses on becoming a sustainable food business, offering organic entrees with local ingredients when possible. An example of that is their vegan chicken and waffle dish. Another part of their goal is to reduce trash by eliminating single-use plastics. They use compostable packaging for most of their menu items.
Downtown Columbus is five minutes away
While it’s easy to get lost in a bygone era while living in Olde Towne East, you’re never far away from more modern amenities in a faster-paced downtown Columbus. That’s only a five-minute drive away.

Olde town east is a very nice neighborhood that is being fixed up and remodeled. The housing market has almost tripped its values since I have moved here 6 years ago. I highly recommend this area because of location and that it's close to downtown!

My environment is developing as we speak. It has always been a drug alley, sex offender drop off, degraded community. Pretentiously the neighborhood will come to riches due to evolving community around.

It's a rather mixed neighborhood that seems to be trending upwards but you don't have to travel far to see depressed pockets on the area. Could use a few more places to socialize but the ones that do are fairly affordable and have a good assortment of creative's, young professionals, and business people. Another plus is its relatively close distance to downtown Columbus and Bexley.
