Olentangy High Bluffs
Single-family homes and townhouses
Homebuyers can purchase 1960s bungalows and ranch-style houses west of the Olentangy River for between $240,000 and $400,000. East of the river, 1980s bungalows sell for between $320,000 and $380,000. Homebuyers can purchase bi-level houses for between $350,000 and $500,000. There is a large selection of townhouses as well. Vinyl-exterior townhouses, also built in the 1980s, are valued from $220,000 to $290,000. “Some of those properties back up to Highbanks, and you have deer come to the fence,” Mason says. “One of the kids in the neighborhood told me about the deer experience, ‘Miss Marilyn, look at our pets.’”Highly rated public schools
Children often begin their educations at Worthington Hills Elementary, which has an 18-to-1 student-teacher ratio. McCord Middle School students are 65% proficient in math and 71% in reading. Teens move on to Worthington Kilbourne High, which has a 19-to-1 student-teacher ratio and offers a range of Advanced Placement classes. All three schools have A-minus Niche ratings. One of the Columbus area's largest public greenspaces
Olentangy High Bluffs runs alongside Highbanks Metro Park. The 1,200-acre greenspace has miles of biking, skiing and dog walking trails spanning wetlands, meadows and stands of oak and sycamore. Visitors enjoy picnics along the slow-moving Olentangy River while their children have fun on the playgrounds. Intrepid explorers launch canoes and kayaks on the river as well. The park’s summer camps help children discover passions for hiking, fishing, kayaking, archery and camping. Residents walk to Highbluffs Park within the community to lounge near its two lakes or walk pets. Access to such amenities keeps residents in the area. “There’s a lot of longevity. I have clients that have moved within the neighborhood. I think that says a lot about community,” Mason says.Franchise eateries and a shopping mall
The neighborhood’s dining options are all casual, and most are franchises. Locals often begin their days with coffee and sweets at Dunkin’. Waffle House is another nearby breakfast spot. Smoothie King is a popping post-exercise spot. El Vaquero Mexican Restaurant serves salty margaritas and spicy fajitas. At North City Tavern, drinks flow, pool balls are struck, musicians sing and pizza is served. Polaris Town Center is 2 ½ miles east and includes retailers like Kroger, Best Buy, Target, Macy’s and T.J. Maxx.Professional entertainment and weekend activities
Folks visit Coliseum X to throw axes at bullseye targets, face off in laser tag and drink domestic beer over plates of mozzarella sticks. Polaris Town Center has a bowling alley and a Cinemark movie theater. The Marcus Cinema on Hutchinson Avenue is another a frequented movie spot. The downtown’s 20,000-seat Nationwide Arena features performances by musicians Justin Timberlake and Bruce Springsteen. Olentangy High Bluffs is 11 ½ miles from Ohio Stadium, where up to 100,000 fans pack in to root for Ohio State’s football team. Columbus locals spend hours zipping down cables through the canopies at ZipZone Outdoor Adventures. Some locals enroll their children in classes at Cutting Edge Dance Center on Dillmont Drive. The neighborhood is 7 miles east of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.Getting around the Columbus area
Folks travel 15 miles south to Downtown Columbus via Ohio State Route 315. John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 16 miles southeast via Interstate 270. “There’s not much traffic. It’s a very private area,” Mason says. The lack of traffic makes walking easy.
