Williams Creek has a private feel with greenery and highway access

Tucked between Alum Creek and the street that shares its name, Williams Creek is a blend of nearby industrial areas and quiet nature preserves. That mix shows up in the neighborhood, with more greenery across lawns and along the streets than you might expect. The location offers some privacy without putting you too far from the city. Homes here are often contemporary designs, offering modern features with a bit of classic charm.

A mix of 1970s homes, newer builds and condos

The northern half of Williams Creek has the majority of its older homes, with split-levels and ranch-style designs from the 1970s lining its tree-shaded streets. These typically run from the mid-$100,000s to the high $200,000s. Further south, 21st-century Craftsman-inspired builds range from the low $200,000s to the mid-$300,000s. Contemporary townhouses and free-standing condo developments are scattered throughout the neighborhood, generally fetching prices from the low $200,000s to the mid-$300,000s and including monthly HOA fees. These are typically around $90 and cover services such as snow removal and common-area maintenance. The median sale price for the area hovers around the high $200,000s, generally lower than Groveport, but higher than Marion Franklin, Obetz-Lockbourne and Glenbrook, though it also has higher average square footage. "The biggest draw to this neighborhood is the price per square foot for the single-family houses and condos," says Shari Smith, a Realtor with e-Merge Real Estate. "You just can't beat it, especially for the southeast area of Columbus."

Homes are zoned for Groveport Madison Schools

Homes in the area are zoned for Groveport Madison Schools, which Niche rates as one of the 25 most diverse school districts in Ohio. Older students might enroll at Groveport Madison High School, which offers the Innovative Pathways program, giving students extra opportunities to prepare for college or a career straight out of high school. Groveport Madison keeps school choice pretty limited: families can request a transfer to another district school, but approval depends on space after enrollment is set. The district also doesn’t broadly allow out-of-district enrollment, so most placements are controlled by policy rather than lotteries.

Trails, dog parks and metro green space nearby

Most of the green space east of Williams Creek ties back to Three Creeks Metro Park. "It's a very big part of the community," says Smith. "Local teams hold functions there; residents have easy access to trails, and it's a peaceful place to escape to." About 5 miles to the southeast, the park spans 1,100 acres with trails, picnic shelters and a range of recreation like biking, canoeing and fishing. Hikers can pick up a 25-mile stretch of the Ohio to Erie Trail from a trailhead along the Alum Creek Greenway. The Three Creeks Dog Park at Sycamore Fields offers fenced areas for large and small breeds, giving dogs room to run off-leash. Closer to the neighborhood’s southern edge, the 6-acre Williams Creek Park has a wide open field for sports and a playground.

Everyday shopping nearby with more options in Groveport

Alum Creek Drive has a limited number of shopping spots, including small convenience stores. For larger retail needs, locals can head to South Hamilton Shopping Center in Glenbrook. Groveport also offers a large selection of independent and chain shopping, along with grocery stores like Giant Eagle and Aldi. The surrounding area has several locally owned restaurants and eateries, as well:

  • Rice Kitchen Asian Cuisine offers familiar Chinese and Thai dishes like wonton soup, pad Thai and kung pao chicken.
  • Possum Holler's specialty pizzas and sub sandwiches have been an Obetz staple since it opened in 1972.
  • Lovell’s Tavern is a popular neighborhood dive bar known for its wings and local beers.

Highway access, transit options and nearby job centers

Interstate 270 and U.S. Route 33 provide straightforward routes to downtown Columbus and Groveport, both within 10 miles. Central Ohio Transit Authority offers a public bus line with stops along Alum Creek Drive. Just west of the neighborhood, several large industrial parks provide steady employment, including manufacturing and distribution centers for Coca-Cola, Sherwin-Williams and Millwood, Inc.
