Commercial Point has been growing since 2000

About 20 miles south of Columbus, Commercial Point is a village of about 3,000. Though it was founded in the late 1800s, it was only in the 21st century that the area began to see significant growth, spurred on by overcrowding in surrounding communities. "People mostly come here because Grove City is so overpopulated," says Lauren Adams, the kitchen manager at The Station House 81, a local restaurant and bar. "Plus, it's quiet, and there's more space." With a population that has doubled every decade since 2000, housing has outpaced businesses. "But that means everything here is locally owned," Adams says. "So if you're eating or shopping here, you're supporting someone local."

Many houses were built in the 2020s

Most of the area's neighborhoods are planned communities filled with 21st-century neo-traditional or midcentury-inspired homes. Lots are typically around a quarter acre with sidewalks sticking to the residential zones. The largest homes surround the lakes and ponds of Foxfire Estates in the area's east side. The median price for single-family homes in Commercial Point is in the high $430,000s.

Station House 81 smokes its own meats

A few local businesses and restaurants cluster around Scioto and Front Streets, including coffee shops, boutiques and salons. For most retail, locals often visit Columbus. Groceries are available at the nearby Pettit's Market. Beck's Garage has a full bar and patio seating to go with its specialty pizzas, sub sandwiches and nine flavors of wings. Live performers and drink specials are on regular rotation. Station House 81 smokes its own meats, putting brisket, pulled pork and chicken on the menu alongside burgers, salads and a popular Taco Tuesday. "We use a homemade rub we've concocted over the years," says Adams. "It's a fun joint — people can come here with their family or just to have a drink. It's a good atmosphere."

The Homecoming Festival includes rides, music and more

Every summer, the Commercial Point Homecoming Festival celebrates the community. Visitors come from all over the county for four days of carnival rides, live music, beer gardens and other family friendly activities. The village sponsors several holiday events, including Halloweenfest and the Christmas celebration.

The Players Club at Foxfire has a championship golf course

Founded in 1994, the Players Club at Foxfire is a family-owned public championship golf course. The club offers a membership program, adult lessons and a summer junior golf day camp. The Scioto Kids Association Youth Sports Complex hosts Little League baseball and teeball games for young athletes all over Pickaway County. Commercial Point hosts a farmers market once a month from May until September, offering residents the chance to buy locally grown produce.

Teays Valley High School has several athletic championships

Commercial Point's students are served by the Teays Valley Local School District, which has a B from Niche. Teays Valley High School is known for its athletics department, which has taken home state championships in bowling, track and field, softball and wrestling.

Columbus is about 20 miles north

Ohio State Route 762 is the area's main highway, connecting to Interstate 71 and U.S. Route 23. Either route leads to Columbus, about 20 miles north.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
