Small-town living in Conyngham, a borough just outside Hazleton

Set in Conyngham Valley, with gently sloping mountains as the backdrop, Conyngham is a small Northeastern Pennsylvania borough tucked away in scenic Luzerne County. Many modern-day residents are descended from original European settlers, who came to Conyngham seeking fertile land and soon established milling and logging industries. Today, Conyngham is a quiet community with about 1,800 people. The borough's quaint Main Street has local businesses and institutions that serve basic needs, but larger cities like Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre are also just a few miles away.

Traditional homes and suburban styles branching off Main Street

Traditional properties from the early 1900s line Main Street, the borough's main thoroughfare. Ranch-style houses and split levels from the mid-to-late 20th century line the quiet residential roads that branch off Main. Listings don't come up frequently, but recent home sales have included a $50,000 property in need of significant renovations, a $300,000, well-kept split-level from the '60s, and a $900,000 custom property with over 6,000 square feet of living space. While home values cover a wide range, the median sale price of a home is around $290,000. Conyngham's CAP Index Crime Score is a 2, lower than the national average of 4.

Events and recreation at Whispering Willows Park and George Ernst Pool

Whispering Willows Park, Conyngham's town park, has basketball courts, playground equipment and a picnic shelter. The park hosts Little League games and town events like family movie nights in the summer and an Easter Egg hunt in the spring. Conyngham's dedicated police and fire department also host celebrations at the park, such as the Annual National Night Out. At this event, families can meet their community's first responders, check out equipment like police interceptors and helicopters, listen to live music, and chow down on hot dogs and hamburgers.

Adjacent to Whispering Willows Park, George Ernst Pool is maintained by the Conyngham Valley Civic Organization and has diving boards, lap lanes and water features for kids to cool off during the summer. Avid golfers can visit the nearby Valley Country Club, a private golf course with other amenities like tennis courts and a pool.

Local dining and establishments along Main Street

Main Street has several businesses and restaurants: Conyngham Brewing Company serves made-in-house brews in its cozy building with tufted leather couches and wood floors. Brass Buckle Restaurant serves American and Mexican food with flair. Other institutions along Main Street include Conyngham United Methodist Church, a post office, Johnson's Pharmacy and the Hazleton Area Public Library's Valley branch. For errands, Gould's Supermarket and more establishments are along Pennsylvania Route 93.
