Home to 41,000 residents, Coppell is a Dallas suburb popular for its central location—with easy access to major highways and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport—and top-notch schools. "The Coppell Independent School District is highly rated, and it has been for years," says Jean Ainsworth, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Dallas Preston Road, who has lived in Coppell since 1998. Longtime resident Jennie Payne, a Realtor at Compass Realty, describes the city as close-knit and family-oriented. "A lot of kids who grew up in the neighborhood are coming back and starting families here," she says. "I've lived here for 40 years, and I really can't see myself living anywhere else."
Coppell's proximity to the airport, less than 5 miles away, has made it a desirable place to do business, attracting shipping and distribution facilities for Amazon, Samsung and The Container Store, among others. The largest employer in Coppell is the Mr. Cooper Group, a financial service company that employs nearly 10,000 people. Residents may experience airplane noise on the city's western side, however. "It's kind of like white noise. You just get used to it," Payne says.

Homes in Coppell include a mix of single-family homes, duplexes and townhouses, some of which are in gated communities. "There's no new construction in Coppell. It's totally built out. Coppell had its construction boom in the 1990s, and the vast majority of the homes were built at that time," Payne says, though she notes that there are a few areas with ranch-style homes built in the 1980s. Large custom homes can run over $1 million, but the median home price in Coppell is around $650,000, significantly higher than the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area average of $399,000.

Students are served by the Coppell Independent School District, which earns an A-plus grade from Niche. The district has 16 schools, including several that have been recognized in the past as National Blue Ribbon Schools, an award given to a handful of schools every year by the U.S. Department of Education. Coppell High School's football team went undefeated in the 2024 regular season. "Friday night football is a big deal," Ainsworth says. "There's a lot of community camaraderie surrounding the schools. It's a one high-school town."

Shopping, dining and a community garden in Old Town Coppell
"We don't have a lot of shopping and dining," Payne says of Coppell. "People love it and hate it for that same reason: we don't have a lot of outsiders coming in, but there's only a handful of restaurants." Georges Coffee + Provisions, Coppell Deli and Hard Eight BBQ are among the few dining options, which are located in Old Town Coppell. For shopping, it's a few miles to one of the area's best-known malls, Grapevine Mills, just off U.S. Highway 121 and Grapevine Mills Parkway. Among its 180 tenants are an AMC movie theater and national retailers, including Neiman Marcus and J. Crew.
The Coppell Farmers Market has over 35 vendors each Saturday in Old Town Coppell. "People come from all over," Ainsworth says. "It's a big draw." Residents can adopt a plot at a Coppell Community Garden, a city project. The multivenue Coppell Arts Center honors local artists and presents entertainment and cultural experiences, including a full calendar of concerts, theater, comedy and music. "The arts center is really fun. We don't need to go to downtown Dallas for theater," Payne says.

Nearly 600 acres of parkland, including Coppell Nature Park
Coppell has 17 parks across 545 acres, including the 134-acre Wagon Wheel Park with lighted sports fields, tennis courts and trails. The 66-acre Coppell Nature Park is a habitat for coyotes, bobcats and more than 130 species of birds. Andrew Brown Park East has a biking trail and a pond for fishing, while Andrew Brown Park West has lighted sports fields and a playground. Andrew Brown Park East hosts the city's annual Party in the Park event each June. The event includes live music, a drone show and fireworks. Major highways in every direction
Coppell is about 20 miles from Downtown Dallas and about 30 miles from Downtown Fort Worth. Major thoroughfares surround the city: To the north is Sam Rayburn Tollway, to the west is Texas State Highway 121, to the south is Interstate 635 and to the east is President George Bush Turnpike and Interstate 35. Dallas Area Rapid Transit's Silver Line commuter rail extension will pass through Coppell, although the nearest station will be just south in Cypress Waters; the estimated completion date is in 2025. The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is about 4 miles southwest and offers international and domestic flights.

According to the Coppell Police Department, violent crime decreased 12 percent year-over-year in 2023, while property crime decreased 28 percent. In 2023, the violent and property crime rates in Coppell were lower than the national average, according to FBI data.
With its position in North Texas, Coppell experiences extreme heat in the summer and mild winters and is prone to tornados.
