Easy access to Cincinnati, Florence and the airport from South Covington
New subdivisions and established residential streets in South Covington branch out from Madison Pike, which creates almost a straight shot into the center of the Cincinnati suburb or downtown itself. “South Covington has a great location within a 15-minute drive to both downtown Cincinnati and the Florence area, as well as everything in between,” says Katrina Robke-Holtmeier, a Realtor and the chief executive officer of The Scarlett Property Group with Keller Williams.

New constructions in Tuscany and older homes past Waymans Branch Road
Well-maintained sidewalks follow the gentle hills that cul-de-sacs and subdivisions in South Covington rest on. New constructions with Craftsman details built after 2020 make up the Tuscany community, located in the north of the neighborhood. Homes in Tuscany range from $390,000 to $690,000, and monthly homeowners association fees can cost upwards of $200. Homes south of Waymans Branch Road tend to have more history — bi-levels, split-levels and ranch-style homes are largely built between the 1960s and the 1990s, some on as much as half an acre of land. These homes list for between $165,000 and $275,000, while new traditional homes from the late 1990s and early 2000s fetch between $245,000 and $600,000. Prices on these new traditional homes depend on their lot size, with some coming on 1.5 acres.

Several nearby community parks with playgrounds and athletic courts
Pioneer Park is an oblong green space that stretches alongside the Madison Pike thoroughfare, and its paved trails follow Banklick Creek to make a 2-mile round trip. “I have visited Pioneer Park throughout my entire life. It’s a very popular place to play, learn to ride bicycles or in-line skate due to the flat terrain,” Robke-Holtmeier says. “My children often have soccer games at Pioneer Park. It’s a great feature within the community.” The park’s other athletic amenities include basketball courts, a baseball field, tennis courts and multiple playgrounds. Pride Park in neighboring Taylor Mill covers 80 acres that were once a sheep farm. In addition to open green fields and multiple trails, it has a playground and a basketball court. Hands Pike Park is a pocket park with a playground tucked between residential streets off of its namesake thoroughfare.

Multiple routes and an express bus to downtown Cincinnati
While the neighborhood consists almost entirely of quiet residential streets and open green spaces – as well as a Fidelity Investments corporate office — nearby interstates make reaching big-box stores in Florence or the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport convenient as well.
Madison Pike, also known as Kentucky state Route 17, runs through South Covington and downtown Covington on its way north to downtown Cincinnati, which is about 11 miles from the south of the neighborhood. The thoroughfare also connects to Interstate 71 for a faster commute. Kentucky state Route 16, or Taylor Mill Road, is an alternative route to downtown Cincy. Interstate 275 traverses the neighborhood, forms a ring around the Cincinnati metro area and passes the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Updated athletic amenities and a swimming pool at Scott High School
South Covington is zoned for three different elementary school zones within the Kenton County School District. Depending on where they live, children may attend Summit View Academy or Fort Wright Elementary School, both of which earn A-minus grades from Niche. They may also attend the B-rated Taylor Mill Elementary School. Students may then enroll at Woodland Middle School, which receives a B-plus, before moving forward to Scott High School. Scoring a B-minus, Scott High boasts updated athletic amenities. It’s one of the only schools in Kentucky with an on-campus swimming pool, and its tennis courts, softball, baseball and soccer fields were updated in 2023, at the same time that its second gymnasium was built.

“Hot brown” at the Log Cabin Inn and Emerson Bakery’s signature cookies
The neighborhood’s businesses are located near the intersection of Madison Pike and Hands Pike. Log Cabin Inn — painted to look like a wooden structure — serves breakfast all day, as well as “hot brown,” an open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and creamy Mornay sauce that originated in Kentucky. “Log Cabin Inn is an institution in the South Covington area,” Robke-Holtmeier says. Nearby, donuts, pastries and cheerful yellow cookies with icing smiley faces are neatly lined next to each other in a glass display at Emerson’s Bakery, which has been around since 1970. “Those delicious Emerson’s smiley face cookies can make anyone’s day brighter,” Robke-Holtmeier says. A Walmart Supercenter is just north of Interstate 275 for groceries and essentials.
