Crandall was founded in 1880 when the Texas Trunk Line Railway decided to lay tracks through the area. Its name comes from Reverand Cornelius Crandall, who gave the railway the right of way through his land. By 1884, Crandall had its own post office, grist mill, school and population of fifty. This town is now home to 4,000 people and a robust Independent School District.
Crandall has seen a population increase of 41% since 2010. "It's a fast-growing area," says Casey Townsend, a broker associate and regional expert at Elsie Halbert Real Estate. "I think it's for the small-town feeling. It also offers easy access to Dallas and other major thoroughfares." According to The Dallas Morning News, developers plan to add 30,000 homes in and around Crandall by the decade's end to meet this rapid growth.

Noble Reed Elementary is one of the newest schools
Most students are served by the Crandall Independent School District, though some homes are zoned for Forney ISD. One of Crandall's newest elementary schools is Noble Reed Elementary, which earns a B rating from Niche. It's the neighborhood school for those living in the Wildcat community. Other schools include Nola Kathryn Wilson Elementary, which earned a B rating by Niche, and Crandall Middle and Crandall High, which both scored a B-minus.
Crandall High helps students identify career clusters with complementary course pathways that prepare them for futures in business, agriculture, health sciences and more. The school shows its pride through its Gold Dusters dance team, which performs at football games, pep rallies and community events.
Noble Reed serves Crandall students from Pre-K through the 5th grade.

On West Gleason Street, there is a Brookshire Brothers for grocery needs just off Main Street.

Heartland community
Crandall's influx of new homes has led to several master-planned communities built around pools, clubhouses and neighborhood schools. Wildcat Ranch and Heartland are currently the most built-out, each with something a bit different to offer. Wildcat Ranch has predetermined modern home styles from nationally regarded builders like Lamar and DR Horton. Heartland has customizable options and a wider selection of development partners, including local and family-owned Antares Homes. Heartland also has low-maintenance-living townhomes. HOA fees are standard for both communities, and pricing begins in the $200,000s and peaks in the $400,000s.
Homebuyers might look to established subdivisions stocked with traditional brick homes from the '80s to the early 2000s for a larger lot with more mature trees and no HOA fees. Prices begin in the $100,000s for homes under 1,000 square feet that require love and care. Three-bedroom ranch-style houses and cottages range from $200,000 to $300,000. A four-bedroom fully renovated property can rise to the $400,000s. Properties currently sell within 80 days.
