Neighborhood in Cranston, Rhode Island
Providence County 02910, 02920
The Cranston area has consistently been ranked as one of the best places to live in the country, by mainstream publications like Money magazine and Fortune magazine. As a result, in the Cranston Stadium/Spectacle neighborhood, you’ll see a lot of interest from people new to the area.
Albert Hajdaraj, a Realtor with Homesmart Professionals, has been noticing this trend. “If you’re thinking about buying a home in Cranston, there’s a huge first-time home buyer market, with starter homes in the $250,000 to $300,000 range.” He also mentions that properties in surrounding neighborhoods can extend from $500,000 up to $800,000 and can draw people who are on their second home or higher – making the Cranston area special, indeed.
Still, despite the stable range of home prices here, you can find diverse styles. For example, you can find a 1940s cottage that contains three bedrooms for $340,000. These will be placed in a suburban setting near homes of a similar style and scale, usually in modest hues like cream, navy and beige. Expect to see the usual suburban hallmarks, like sidewalks, shade trees and attached garages. Or, you can go even more vintage with a 1920s Cape Cod. Whichever route you go, it’s likely you’ll encounter modern updates to shared spaces like the kitchen.
Stadium Elementary is centrally located in the neighborhood, and enrolls around 250 students in grades K-5. With a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1, the school earned a B from Niche in the teachers category and a B-plus overall. Hugh B. Bain Middle on the west end steps up the student population, with 600 enrolled in grades 6-8. Niche awarded the school an A in the diversity category. Cranston High School East is clearly at the top, in terms of size: over 1,500 students are enrolled in grade 9-12. With a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1, the school earned a B-minus in the teachers category and a B overall.
This neighborhood is also ideal for those who like to have an abundance of park space. On the east end you’ll find Spectacle Pond, a popular spot for bass fishing. Attached is Speck Field, which contains a small playground and facilities for baseball. Cooney Field on the west end is another mixed use area: you’ll find a perimeter track with lanes marked for joggers and walkers, plus a tot lot, soccer field and baseball field. Cranston Stebbins Stadium is a source of local pride, and has facilities for baseball, football, field hockey, soccer and lacrosse.
Residents have multiple ways to dine and take care of errands. On the north side is a mall with a Stop & Shop supermarket, plus big box stores like Lowe’s. Reservoir Avenue runs along the east end, and that’s where you’ll find a string of eclectic eateries – from Italian to Indian to classic American diner food. The boldly named Spain restaurant offers a deep dive into exotic dishes like chicken stuffed with lobster and topped with a cognac mushroom sauce. You can also use Reservoir Avenue to reach downtown Providence in about 15 minutes.
If you’re looking for a starter home suburb that’s flush with amenities, check out Cranston Stadium/Spectacle.
