Oaklawn Avenue, one of the main streets in Garden Hills, is full of restaurants and other small businesses on either side, from DeLuise Bakery and their homemade whipped cream and pastries to family-owned Campanella’s, an Italian restaurant that has been serving grilled pizzas, lasagna and subs since 1997. Warwick Mall is a 6-minute drive south and features Target, Macy’s and JCPenney. And on rainy days, residents can head to Apple Cinemas Warwick Mall to catch a movie. Brayton Park has several baseball diamonds, a playground for kids and a few benches. A stone's throw away from Brayton Park is 42 Hilltop Park, which has a playground and expansive green field to play fetch with dogs or organize a game of two-hand touch football. Bike lane and sidewalks in Garden Hills, highways lead to Providence

Oaklawn Avenue also features a narrow bike lane and uniform sidewalks, with a mix of cul-de-sac and looping streets branching off for residential areas. Scaralia says, “You see bikers and walkers regularly in the neighborhood.” Garden Hills is a suburban peninsula, surrounded on most sides by highways, Interstate 295 passing to the west, and Rhode Island state Highway 37 and Rhode Island Route 2 intersecting to form the north and east borders of the neighborhood. With this infrastructure, residents can be in downtown Providence in 10 miles or Newport in 28 miles. Several RIPTA Route 30 bus stations on Oaklawn Avenue can drop residents off at Meshanticut State Park or access different parts of Cranston. Garden Hills is a commuter-friendly neighborhood in Rhode Island’s second most populous city, with retail or recreation well within reach for residents.
