Stadium offers a sports complex and residential homes

The Stadium neighborhood in Rhode Island takes its name from Cranston Stebbins Stadium, a sports complex that has been home to high school sports since 1936 and hosted both minor league and collegiate baseball in the past. Situated in northern Cranston on the fringes of Providence, Stadium is an otherwise almost entirely residential neighborhood, with its namesake in the southeast corner. “A lot of people like to stay outside the borders of the city, but it’s easy for commuters,” says Matthew Patty, a real estate broker with Real Broker LLC and the founder of Real Vision Properties. “There is a lot of older housing stock on cute, quintessential American streets. You have good access to Providence, as well as the icons of Cranston like Rolfe Square and Garden City.” Patty also cites the lower price points, compared to other Cranston neighborhoods, as a draw.

20th-century properties line Stadium streets

Single-family homes take up much of the Stadium neighborhood, which is almost entirely residential. “There are some multi-family homes, but it’s more single-family homes on smaller lots, and definitely a price difference versus some of the other neighborhoods,” says Rachel McNally, a Realtor with Real Broker LLC. Ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and bungalows are the most common architectural styles, many of which date to before 1950. Homes typically cost between $360,000 and $400,000.

Sports events are held at Cranston Stebbins Stadium

Cranston Stebbins Stadium offers multiple sports facilities. Stebbins Field is the complex’s football gridiron and Magciacomo Field is its baseball diamond. There are also basketball and tennis courts. “The city hosts all sorts of games there,” McNally says. “They also rent it out for events, private soccer clubs and private football clubs.” Cyclists can hit the Washington Secondary Rail Trail, which runs for 19 miles and lines the north side of Stadium. The nearby Cranston YMCA has fitness programs and an indoor pool. Just west, Parque Cranston has multiple baseball fields and Cooney Playground.

Local restaurant staples in and around Stadium

Twin Oaks Restaurant is the most popular stop in the area, situated just east. Diners are treated to a view of Spectacle Pond and Italian dishes. Park Avenue is lined with restaurants on the south side of the neighborhood, where T’s Restaurant is a local favorite for breakfast, brunch and lunch. “Twin Oaks and T’s are probably two of the more iconic restaurants in that area,” Patty says. “Twin Oaks is a heritage classic with old pub food, big shrimp and filets. It’s really kind of avant-garde, modern cuisine.” Two Angels Tacos and Mario’s Italian Deli serve international fare on Gansett Avenue. On Park Avenue, Sophia’s Café prepares sandwiches and Ted’s Stadium Pub offers burgers. The Cranston Parkade is the area’s shopping hub and includes a Stop & Shop less than 2 miles north. Walmart is less than 5 miles west.

RIPTA buses make stops along Reservoir Avenue. “If you’re driving, you’re near everything,” McNally says, “and those areas are good for people that don’t have transportation, because bus routes run through the area.” The neighborhood is about 5 miles from downtown Providence, and Boston sits more than 50 miles north. Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport is located around 7 miles south. Medical care is available at Roger Williams Medical Center, around 5 miles from Stadium.
