Western Cranston neighborhoods sit in pockets of peace and quiet.
Quiet neighborhood south of Providence
Located just west of the Providence Beltway that serves as an unofficial border between the suburban and urban portions of Cranston, Western Cranston is less accessible and more insular than the town’s eastern region. There are no public transit stops and few sidewalks, so folks depend on cars to get around. Western Cranston includes a mix of new construction and homes built in the 60s and 70s. The eastern end of Western Cranston, closer to the Providence Beltway, features standard suburban developments: half-acre lots, well-kept lawns, and large colonial homes. Toward the west, however, lots get bigger, driveways longer and the overall neighborhood feeling becomes more private and less connected.
Mixture of new construction and planned developments
Western Cranston includes a mix of new construction and homes built in the 60s and 70s. A three-bedroom home might carry a $550,000 price tag, while a brand-new, four-bedroom home in a planned development may cost close to $1 million. “It’s a more sprawling area. There’s more space between houses, and it feels more private, and more rural,” says Gina Howarth with RE/MAX 1st Choice, who has been working in the Cranston area for 20 years. “Homes there are on well water, and there’s a horse farm and some agricultural farms.”
