Quiet homes in Brook Heights are near Cuyahoga Falls parks and shops
Brook Heights is a neighborhood on the outskirts of Cuyahoga Falls, with homes far enough away from major highways that cars can rarely be heard. Still, with parks, retailers and Downtown Cuyahoga Falls a short drive away, residents can easily access the city’s amenities. The vast Cuyahoga Valley National Park is about 3 miles away, with trails that hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders can use. “It is an unbelievable amenity,” says Diana Colavecchio, director of community development for Cuyahoga Falls. Residents visit downtown, about 5 miles away, to shop, eat and drink at independent businesses and attend city events.

Late 20th-century homes in a market that moves fast
A drive along Brook Height’s wide roads shows spacious green lawns with a dense collection of oak and spruce trees. “There’s sort of a rural aspect to that part of the city,” Colavecchio says. Long driveways lead to attached garages. Most of the neighborhood was built in the latter half of the 20th century, with homes including ranch styles, split-levels and Colonial Revivals. There are some new traditional houses in the southernmost part of Brook Heights. Prices typically fall between $290,000 and $400,000. The market moves fast in the area, with homes selling after an average of 26 days, significantly faster than the national average of 46 days.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park and city parks offer outdoor recreation
Nearly 33,0000 acres of forest, fields and wetlands fill Cuyahoga Valley National Park. There are over 125 miles of hiking trails, 20 of which belong to the multi-use Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Kayakers can access several entry points onto the Cuyahoga River, where people can also fish. The park hosts several concerts throughout the year, from smaller events like the Rhythm on the River summer concert series to major headliners performing at the Blossom Music Center. At nearby Keyser Park, there is a playground, dog park, running path and baseball and soccer fields. “There are some really nice biking trails within the park system that you can do, which are off the road,” says Carol Morganti, Realtor with Re/Max Crossroads. Hampton Hills Metro Park is also in the area and has about 7 miles of trails designed for mountain biking.

Downtown Cuyahoga Falls is a mix of restaurants, boutiques and cafes. “I do think the restaurants are strong,” Morganti says. After dinner, people can get a sweet treat from Pav’s Creamery. Events include free concerts at the downtown amphitheater and the city’s Heritage Festivals: the Riverfront Irish Festival, Festa Italiana and Oktoberfest.
Other retail and dining options include Portage Crossing, a nearby shopping center. Many people head there to watch a movie at Cinemark or get groceries from the Giant Eagle Market District. There are also several fast-food restaurants in the area. Residents travel about 3 miles to Merriman Road in Akron for more locally owned options, including Quarter Up, a bar and arcade, and Putty’s Kitchen, which serves American fare. Weathervane Playhouse is also in that area, showing plays and musicals. “It’s a nice venue,” Morganti says. Walmart is about a 5-mile drive, while Target and Home Depot are about 7 miles away.
