The leafy enclave of Ridgedale is among the westernmost of Dale City’s eponymous “Dale” neighborhoods — Mapledale, Kirkdale, etc. — which line creatively named Dale Boulevard, the area’s major arterial road.
Nearly all homes in the neighborhood were built between the late 80s and mid-2000s, which is reflected in both the styles and spaces available in the neighborhood. Most of Ridgedale’s spacious homes have between 2,000 and 4,000 square feet of space, done in a mix of typical suburban styles: Cape Cods, split-levels, Colonial Revival-style homes and New Traditional homes are all common throughout the neighborhood. Home prices, meanwhile, range from around $460,000 for a 2,000-ish-square-foot property, up to around $750,000 for a well-appointed starter mansion. Throughout the neighborhood, wide streets and well-maintained sidewalks offer plenty of space for jogging or biking, and nearby forests are home to nature trails that run throughout the neighborhood.
The most popular of these, at least for Ridgedale residents, is likely the Neabsco Greenway Trail, which follows parts of Neabsco Creek through the neighborhood, and is the perfect spot for a quick walk or jog, or even a bit of birdwatching. Those looking for more diverse recreational opportunities will appreciate the many parks in the area. Andrew Leitch Park, for example, has everything a summertime parkgoer might want: baseball fields, basketball courts and walking paths, not to mention the local swimming pool. Just across the street, the Prince William Ice Center hosts a variety of events, from basic skating lessons to youth hockey and figure skating.
Locals looking to do a bit of shopping need look no further than neighborhood namesake Dale Boulevard, where they’ll find an array of retailers, from local shops and boutiques like aquarium specialist Nova Tropicals to supermarkets like Giant and Food Lion. More extensive shopping options can be found just down the road in central Dale City, where you’ll also find the Dale City Library and Farmers Market, along with entertainment venues like Gray’s Event Center and Bowlero bowling alley.
When it comes to eating out, there are a number of popular options nearby, though not quite as many as you’d find closer to DC. Low-key Louisiana Cafe has been the area’s go-to spot for Cajun Cuisine for over a decade, while Pa Nuang Thai has some of the best curries in town. Local favorite Kabob G offers a mouthwatering assortment of Mediterranean and Indian options, including slow-cooked lamb and beef and house-made naan.
The neighborhood’s public schools are part of the Prince William County Public School District, which has an A-minus overall grade on Niche. Local Rosa Parks Elementary has a B-plus grade on the site, while Beville Middle has a B-minus rating. C.D. Hylton High, named for Dale City’s founder, has a B-plus grade as well, and is home to the well-respected Center for International Studies and Languages, a program that offers students in-depth exposure to world languages and culture via specialized classes and extracurricular activities.
If you’re looking for a quiet suburban enclave away from the bustle of DC and the northern suburbs, Ridgedale is a quiet, comfortable landing spot just a stone’s throw away from extensive shopping and dining opportunities.
