Residential neighborhood close to White Rock Lake Park

Ten miles from downtown Dallas is Alger Park-Ash Creek, a residential neighborhood with W.H. Gatson Middle School located in the southwestern section. The community is also close to popular shopping, like Casa Linda Plaza, and one of Dallas’ main parks, White Rock Lake Park. One of Dallas’ older neighborhoods, it was first created in 1950’s as two separate neighborhoods that eventually formed into the current Alger Park-Ash Creek. The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) acts as one of the borders, with trains occasionally coming through. The neighborhood has a crime score of 3 on the CAP Index, lower than the national average.

Ranch-style and duplexes built in the 1950s

Alger Park-Ash Creek is older, with most homes built in the 1950s. Ranch-style homes are the main housing style throughout the community, although there are some duplexes. Prices can range between $327,000 and about $700,000. Most homes have an attached single-car garage in the front of homes, with a few that have either a two-car garage or a carport. Many properties have landscaping in their front yards with mature trees spread throughout the community. Alger Park-Ash Creek does have a homeowners association, with fees relating to maintenance of the neighborhood.

Less than 2 miles to Casa Linda Plaza and other shopping

The neighborhood is about a mile from Casa Linda Plaza. Sitting just north of White Rock Lake, this shopping center has two grocery stores -Natural Grocers and Albertsons- and a variety of local and national businesses. Local restaurants include Maya’s Modern Mediterranean and Rodeo Goat. To the northwest is Casa View Shopping Center, with a Walmart Neighborhood Market. There is a farmers market that runs seasonally from March to December at the White Rock United Methodist Church, about a mile from the community.

Botanical Garden concerts and nearby Downtown Dallas

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is about 2 miles west along the shores of White Rock Lake Park. It hosts multiple festivals as well as the Cool Thursday Concerts. Walking distance to Gaston Middle School

The neighborhood is zoned to the Dallas Independent School District, with Gaston Middle School sitting within the community. Dallas ISD began Choose Dallas ISD, a program where residents and non-residents are able to apply for any Dallas ISD schools. Alger Park-Ask Creek children can begin Reinhardt Elementary School, which is graded a B-minus by Niche. Students may then attend Gaston Middle School, which earns a C. A mini-park within and close to White Rock Lake Park

Jones Park is a mini-park within the neighborhood. With only .2 acres of green space, the park has room for two playsets. The neighborhood is also close to White Rock Lake, one of Dallas’ reservoirs that has been transformed to suit residents. With over 1,000 acres of green space, White Rock Lake has almost 10 miles of trails for walkers and bikers. The lake is surrounded by a cultural center, museum and botanical garden as well.

Ten miles to Downtown Dallas

Interstate 30 is to the south of Alger Park-Ash Creek, leading into Downtown Dallas less than 10 miles south. State Highway 78 is to the north of the neighborhood, with Loop 12 acting as a portion of the southern border. White Rock Medical Center is just over a mile to the west. Dallas Fort Worth is about 39 miles west.
