Easygoing Dallas suburb minutes from the Cedars entertainment district
Community and commuting characterize Cedar Crest. The established neighborhood offers proximity to downtown Dallas without the heftier price tag, says Keller Williams Realtor Danny Force, who has sold real estate in the Metroplex for nearly 15 years. "The Cedar Crest area is a more affordable alternative to living in downtown Dallas," says Danny Force, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty DPR. "It's close enough to Dallas and the major highways for commuters, but it's good for people who don't want to be right on top of the city or to pay the Dallas home prices," Force says. Cedar Crest includes quieter, established residential areas and is minutes from the Cedars district, which has trendy bars and eclectic restaurants. The neighborhood also offers community programming through local organizations, offering education and resources for any resident.

A mix of established cottages and turn-key new builds
Force says this established community offers a range of older homes and newer construction. In some areas, houses are densely built, but most offer tidy front lawns and shaded backyards. Buyers will find shingle-style cottages, Tudor Revival-inspired bungalows and lime-washed ranch-style homes. Many of these homes are turn-key, but some offer the chance to add a personal touch. There are also some contemporary new builds with upscale, modern farmhouse-style designs. Prices for established cottages and bungalows range between $285,000 and $400,000, depending on the updates done. New builds typically cost between $600,000 and $1 million.

Neighborhood resources are found at Pan African Connection
The community is just 3 miles from the vibrant Cedars district. This entertainment area is known for its sizable selection of restaurants, cocktail bars and breweries. Hamilton's Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge is a favorite for happy hour or date night, while Four Corners Brewing is a go-to for a Saturday afternoon craft beer. The Cedars is also popular for catching shows at South Side Ballroom or grabbing local produce at the Dallas Farmers Market. While the community offers a few Family Dollars for quick conveniences, residents can hop on Highway 67 and find a Target, Sam's Club and WinCo Foods 8 miles away. One of the community's most important features is the Pan-African Connection Bookstore, Art Gallery and Resource Center. The center is "way more than just a bookstore," says CEO Akwete Tyehimba, who, with her late husband Bandele Tyehimba, has been running the center for 35 years. "We offer community programs in wellness, arts and crafts, literacy for children--even beekeeping and gardening," Tyehimba says. "We also have a farmers market every first and third Sunday, and that really helps out local small businesses and people looking for more access to fresh food. People call us every single day for resources and services." The center is located in the neighborhood's southwestern corner, beside a few local businesses and the popular restaurant Mo's World-Famous Eatery. This soul food restaurant features specialties like chicken and waffles and barbecued lamb chops.
Easy commuting via I-35
The community is bordered by some of the Dallas area's major thoroughfares, including Interstate 35 and I-45. Access to these highways makes it easy to commute to downtown Dallas, which is less than 5 miles away. Residents can also use the DART train, which has a station located on South Denley Drive. If residents need to get to other areas in the Metroplex, these roads connect to the larger highway system. The closest hospital, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, is 4 miles away. When residents travel by air, the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is about 25 miles from home.
