Elmwood, maintaining architecture and keeping it simple
Tucked away about 6 miles southwest of Dallas proper lies Elmwood, a neighborhood marked by its simple homes and quiet residential streets. It's just minutes from Dallas hot spots like the chic and bright Bishop Arts District without the city scurry that often follows in the busier areas. Once the site of the massive farm of Tennessee Dairies, Inc., until a fire forced it to relocate in 1919, Elmwood became a prime location for domestic construction. Its original 20th-century homes are a considerable part of its charming personality, giving it a vintage and almost village feel despite its urban placement. Surrounded by green space and hosting several local businesses, Elmwood stands strong as its own little residential ecosystem.
A feature neighborhood of classic midcentury architecture
Homes here maintain a minimal traditional theme with small backyards and lot sizes for easy upkeep. Most residences saw construction between the 1940s and 1960s, although a few houses still stand from the Roaring Twenties. Architectural styles include stone Tudor-style cottages and mixed-material ranch homes, with porches decorated and gardens blooming for personal flare. For the traditional homes with little to no updates, expect to see prices beginning in the upper $200,000s, while the renovated houses in this area average between mid $300,000s to low $400,000s. "Listing agents getting the price right is more important than ever. People have options right now, and there is so much potential here," says Scott Noblett, a Realtor with Paragon Realtors with nearly a decade of experience, and local to the area.
