Kessler
Explore the Bishop Arts District
Just south of Kessler, below West Davis Street, lies the eclectic Bishop Arts District, which offers trendy food options, nightlife venues, and a celebrated shopping area that is held together by local businesses. "The district has exploded over the last ten years," says Thompson. "If you're going to a bar, you're running into your neighbors, and a lot of shop owners live locally." The district is home to the Kessler Theater, which, after nearly three decades of inactivity, the former movie house reopened in 2010 as a music venue featuring a heavy rotation of famous acts. "There is a huge sense of community in Oak Cliff," Thompson says. "Mardi Gras is the biggest annual event with a 5k on the same day."Go swimming at Kidd Springs Park
During the summer swelter, locals head to Kidd Springs Park on West Canty Street and soak up the sun at the aquatic center. Stevens Park Golf Course on North Montclair Avenue is where locals tee up on its public 18-hole course within the backdrop of the Dallas Skyline. Fresh roses bloom at Lake Cliff Park, where locals come for walks, picnics, and tennis games around the park's pond. The elevated terrain of the Twelve Hills Nature Center invites locals for hikes among its native plants. Aside from the Coombs Creek Trail, Kessler is also under 2 miles from the well-traveled Trinity River Trails.Housing styles intertwine in Kessler
Hilly, winding forested roads lead to the circular driveways of Kessler's diverse homes. Kessler unfolds in several distinct sections, including East Kessler, Kessler Park and Kessler Park Estates. Parks, golf courses and churches mingle among the neighborhood's Contemporary, Colonial Revival, Tudor and Craftsman-style houses. These 20th-century residences range widely in size and aesthetics, often changing with each corner's turn and blending with new construction and modern townhomes. Additionally, the Kessler Park Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Prices typically range from $495,000 for 1,600 square feet and hovering over $2 million for over 5,000 square feet.Sundays are for brunch at Restaurant Beatrice
On West Davis Street, Normas Cafe is a long-standing diner serving homey Mexican-style breakfast, and Nova is a local pub enjoyed for its chef-curated menu. Restaurant Beatrice across from Lake Cliff Park is popular for its weekend Cajun-inspired brunch and was a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2023. "Lucia in the Bishop Arts District is a popular Italian restaurant that usually books a few months in advance," Thompson says. Aside from antiquing or perusing through gift shops in the upbeat Bishops Art District, locals are just 4 miles from Weatherford Town Square in Uptown and the culture of downtown Dallas. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away in any direction and there are smaller markets in the arts district.Creative students can apply to Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy

Additionally, Sunset High School is graded with a C-plus and is home to several health sciences, criminal justice, finance and technology academies. The Kessler School is a private option.Get downtown in under 10 minutes
