Kiest Park
Quiet streets and modern homes
Throughout the residential area, one finds quiet streets lined with shade trees whose leafy branches often meet overhead to keep the hot Texas sunshine off yards and sidewalks. Sitting back behind expansive front lawns are Craftsman-style bungalows and ranch-style homes with private driveways and spacious front yards. Residents can navigate the neighborhood by foot or bike on sidewalks throughout the area. Prices start around $270,000 for a three-bedroom Craftsman to about $400,000 for a one-story modern Farmhouse.Innovative and adaptive schools
Public schools in the area are served by the Dallas Independent School District, which offers robust school choice with innovative schools that adapt to the needs of each neighborhood. Children may begin their education at Jimmie Tyler Brashear Elementary. The school holds a B-minus rating from Niche and has a 15-1 student-teacher ratio. Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School scores a C rating on Niche and has a 13-1 student-teacher ratio. Justin F. Kimball High School also scores a C. In 2024, Kimball alum Jason Hamilton returned to his alma mater. The executive chef is overseeing the district’s newest initiative to teach students the technical, culinary and entrepreneurial skills necessary to manage a food truck.Rose gardens, rolling hills and playgrounds
Kiest Park’s lush gardens and rolling hills include a formal rose garden, a pergola and a 275-foot stone-lined rill. A looped trail meanders around the area. Park visitors will find plenty to keep them busy, whether wandering through the gardens, strolling on the walking trail or playing sports on one of the many fields. Many locals pack a lunch and let the kids enjoy the playground. Residents seeking a more untamed outdoor experience can cross the street to Oak Cliff Nature Preserve. The green space is 121 acres of natural space where outdoorsy adventurers can mountain bike or hike the 8 miles of trails.Shops across the street
Whether browsing new arrivals at Ross, stopping for a trim at His and Hers Barber Shop or getting the family’s physicals at Kids Pediatrics, residents can check off their to-do lists at Wynnewood Village Shopping Center, just across W. Illinois Avenue. The retail center is undergoing a $30 million renovation and will open a Target in August 2024. Grocery shoppers will appreciate the Aldi Supermarket just across Hampton Road, making for a fast and convenient trip. Morning shoppers may want to pop into Eggscellent Café for a filling breakfast before beginning the day. Mi Sazón offers an authentic Mexican menu in a colorful environment for a night out to eat.State fairs and holiday festivals
In September, about 2.5 million people descend on Fair Park for the State Fair of Texas. Nine miles from Kiest Park, the nearly month-long event is the nation’s largest fair. Attendees can check out the miles of agriculture, livestock, science, culture and art exhibits, dozens of amusement rides and all the fried food a person could eat. In December, the annual Kiest Park Holiday Festival is filled with family-friendly events like a tree-lighting ceremony and Santa’s Workshop where kids can enjoy hands-on fun with activities and crafts, jump in a bouncy house and relax at the hot chocolate station.Major highways mean easy commutes
Two major roadways in the city surround Kiest Park. Interstate 35 runs north to south from the Mexican border into Oklahoma. Highway US-67 is runs from the border to Arkansas by way of downtown Dallas. Kiest Park is car dependent. “Like most of Dallas,” says Saucedo, “residents will probably need a car to get around.” However, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a multimodal transportation system that connects Dallas neighborhoods and 12 surrounding cities. Residents can find DART stops throughout the neighborhood.
