Nature-shrouded one-story homes between parks and ponds
Thicket-lined side roads, like Dixfield Drive and Valley Spring Drive, give way to sloping streets, flanked on either side by towering live oaks and leafy lawns. Most homes are ranch-style, either with midcentury or Western influences; there are also some split levels with stairs built into the hilly terrain leading from sidewalks. Many houses were built between the 1950s and 1960s, and have been updated and renovated with new windows, roofs and other modern touches. Lots here are spacious, giving residents plenty of room for landscaping or playing backyard football. Houses start at around $430,000 for 1,200- to 1,500-square-foot three-bedroom homes. Homes in the Wyrick Estates subdivision on the neighborhood’s northwestern edge are typically larger, Tudor-inspired builds from 2010 to the present, often with classic, arch-covered entryways, barn-style garage doors and cobblestone facades; prices range between $500,000 and $700,000.

The Texas State Fair is a big deal in Dallas
The longest-running fair in the country is the Texas State Fair, which runs from September through October.
