Redbird soars as a Dallas retail hub
Redbird is an established neighborhood in southwest Dallas that’s close to several freeways, shops and amenities. Conveniently situated between Oak Cliff and Duncanville, Redbird began development after the Dallas Executive Airport was built in the mid-1940s. While the community gradually declined in the 2000s, an ongoing 1 million-square-foot renovation in the Shops at RedBird has attracted new businesses and attention to the area. With a variety of housing options, nearby attractions and easy commutes throughout the metroplex, Redbird is taking off in North Texas.

Older traditional homes and newer midcentury modern styles
Most residential subdivisions are nestled between the major highways that run through the neighborhood. Much of the community is comprised of older single-family homes built between the 1950s and 1960s, although new builds in Ellington Woods and Creekside at Carter Square have led to a more modern look throughout the area. There are also a few apartment complexes around the highway intersection, with more than half of the 58,000 population made up of renters. Single-story fixer-uppers range from the lower $80,000s to the mid-$100,000s, while recently updated traditional homes cost between the mid-$100,000s and upper $300,000s. Large mid-century modern, contemporary and ranch-style homes are also common and vary from the lower $400,000s to the upper $600,000s.

Interstate 20 runs east and west through the neighborhood and serves as the main highway to Fort Worth and Balch Springs. Interstate 35 East and U.S. Route 67 both merge north of Loop 12 and lead about 10 miles away toward the downtown area. “It’s close to numerous freeways,” says Donna Bosse, a local broker with Donna Savariego Homes. “It’s close to shopping, schools, family neighborhoods – it’s close to everything.” Dallas Area Rapid Transit buses stop around town and provide public transportation as far as the Parkland Station, which has additional connections to the Dallas Love Field airport. While there are also routes to the hospital district north, most will seek out their medical care at the local 24-hour Methodist Charlton Medical Center.
