Homes built primarily in the 1910s and 20s line the residential streets of Edgemont. This age has lent a sense of stateliness to some buildings and an urgent need for renovation to others. However, the need for rehabilitation is nowhere near as universal as the houses in many other West Dayton neighborhoods. Occupied homes tend to be tidy and well-maintained, with small front and back yards that are occasionally fenced in. Garages and driveways are infrequent, necessitating street parking in most areas. Well-loved sidewalks make the residential zones very walkable, though this shifts as the neighborhood nears Interstate 75 to the east. Community gardens at Edgemont Solar Gardens
At the north end of Edgemont, Burkham Center Park is a stretch of green space ideal for parents, kids and anyone who needs to stretch their legs. A 12-acre park features a playground, picnic pavilions, walking paths, and basketball courts. Founded in 1978, the Edgemont Solar Garden is a community center and garden that aims to support local food and heritage with training seminars, local events and opportunities to grow fresh produce for the surrounding community.

Career guidance at Chaminade Julienne
Ohio's Open Enrollment program allows students to attend any school that makes the most educational sense for them, regardless of their district. A student in Edgemont might begin at Louise Troy Elementary School before heading to Wogaman Middle School, both of which have a D-plus on Niche. Afterward, they could enroll at the International School at Residence Park, which also has a D-plus and is known for its dual enrollment program that allows students to earn college credits as they finish their diploma. Ohio Voucher Programs enable students to apply for acceptance at participating private schools at a free or subsidized tuition rate. Nearby Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School scores an A on Niche and focuses on the long-term needs of its student body. "I work with students to answer three fundamental questions," says Chaminade Julienne's college and career coordinator, Andy Taube. "Who am I? Where am I going? How do I get there?"
