German and Turkish influence
In the late 19th century and early 20th century, two distinct immigrant groups made their way to the Old North Dayton neighborhood. An abundance of Turkish and German families have made this part of Dayton their home. That German influence can be found mainly at the Amber Rose Restaurant on Valley Street. The building where it’s located was built in 1910 and ran as a deli for many years. Since 1990, Amber Rose has served traditional German food, including sausage, sauerkraut and schnitzel. The beer and wine list includes hard-to-find European beverages. Turkish influence can be found in the generations of families living in the neighborhood. “The Turkish community is very family-driven, and they have become an active part of the community,” Pultz says.Renovated older homes
