An affluent suburb located in the diverse city of Dearborn
Cherry Hill Estates is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn. It's located on the west side of Dearborn, where large, modern properties are common, and the streets are less walkable than downtown. "Cherry Hill Estates is a very attractive location with a good school system, so it's a high-demand area," says Batoul Abdallah, a Realtor with Re/Max Leading Edge who recently sold a home in the neighborhood. "There are a lot of doctors, lawyers and other working professionals there." With well-manicured lawns and quiet streets, Cherry Hill Estates feels like a classic suburb, though it is still very connected to Dearborn's vibrant community and diverse Middle Eastern population.
High demand, high prices
Though many of the homes in Cherry Hill Estates date back to the 1950s, most properties have been renovated, and several were built after 2000. Older brick ranch-style houses sell for around $500,000 to $700,000. Newer properties start around $800,000 and can get over $1 million for custom-built estates. Prices are well above average for Dearborn. Homes and yards are some of the city's largest as well. Floor plans usually range from 2,500 to 3,500 square feet, and yards average around a half-acre, often featuring a backyard pool. "There's a lot of demand in a very small geographic area," says Mahmoud Ismail, a Dearborn native and Realtor with Century 21 Curran & Oberski. "So, it's very common to see multiple offers." Abdallah agrees: "If you list a home there on Thursday, it will be gone by Monday."
Public schools, private schools and nearby universities
Cherry Hill Estates is part of the Dearborn Public Schools district and is zoned for Haigh Elementary School. Haigh gets a B-plus rating from Niche and was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2021. Older kids are zoned for Bryant Middle School, rated B, and Dearborn High School, rated B-plus. Dearborn High is known for its music programs and its film program, which has won multiple Michigan Emmy Awards. The neighborhood is also less than a mile from Divine Child Elementary and Divine Child High School. Divine Child High is the state's largest co-ed Catholic high school, with more than 800 students. Niche gives the school an A-minus grade. Nearby higher education options include Henry Ford College and the University of Michigan Dearborn Campus. Both colleges are about 4 miles away.
Cuisine and culture from a large Middle Eastern population
Cherry Hill Estates is a very residential community, but nearby commercial corridors offer an array of restaurants, notably Middle Eastern cuisine. "There is a strong Middle Eastern community here, which means some great options for food in nearby every part of the city," Ismail says. Popular nearby restaurants include the family-owned Al Sultan Restaurant, La Pita for Lebanese cuisine and Sheeba Restaurant – West Dearborn for Yemeni dishes. For classic American fare, Miller's Bar has served Dearborn since 1914 and is often named the best spot for a burger in the greater Detroit area. Dearborn is home to the largest mosque in North America, The Islamic Center of America. The center is located 5 miles away from Cherry Hill Estates.
Swimming at Levagood, golfing at Dearborn Hills
Cherry Hill Estates is surrounded by green spaces. To the north, Levagood Park has a summer swimming pool, as well as playgrounds, tennis courts and a sand volleyball court. When Michigan's cold winters blow in, there are a few nearby options for gyms, including Planet Fitness, which is about a mile away. Directly south, the public 18-hole Dearborn Hills Golf Course is the oldest in the city, dating back to 1923. In the 1990s, the greens were fully renovated, and a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse was added. "Some homes have views of the course, which can be a draw," Ismail says. The golf course is part of a floodplain, which gives it a slight risk of flooding. Most homes in the neighborhood are not affected.
Proximity to the airport and other amenities
Cherry Hill Estates is about 7 miles from downtown Dearborn and 20 miles from downtown Detroit. The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is about 8 miles away. Interstate 94 is 4 miles south, connecting 20 miles into Detroit and 30 miles to Ann Arbor. Around Cherry Hill Estates, there's little within walking distance, and no bus lines run through the neighborhood. Residents instead hop in the car to reach the grocery stores along Michigan and Ford a venue, and the Fairlane Town Center, the city's only mall, is 5 miles away. Dearborn's largest employer is Ford Motor Company, which has its world headquarters located just 5 miles from Cherry Hill Estates.
