A culturally rich, east Dearborn neighborhood
Colson Ruby's central location and cultural richness make it highly sought-after. Located on the east side of Dearborn, it's at the heart of the Arab Capital of America—both in location and feel. Slightly larger houses and suburban features attract buyers who want to move up from the South End but stay close to family, friends and familiar establishments.
"There's kind of a migration from all of the families that came into America, and they found their first home in the South End, and then as they have they've done better, they've kind of started migrating out," says Michael Phillips, owner of Keller Williams Legacy and lifelong Dearborn resident. Due to this migration, most residents of Colson Ruby are of Middle Eastern and North African descent, which is reflected in the surrounding restaurants, houses of worship, landmarks and more.

Diverse shopping on Schafer and Michigan Avenues
Neighborhood stores and restaurants cater to Colson Ruby's diverse population. Dearborn Fresh Supermarket is well-known for its selection of fresh, never-frozen meat. Thanks to its relationships with livestock farmers, its team of butchers sells fresh, halal meat daily. Shoppers can find homemade breads, pastries and Middle Eastern desserts at its bakery.
"[Dearborn Fresh Supermarket] is different because it was one of the first that took the size of like a Kroger, and then it brought in all of the Middle Eastern communities' brands," Phillips says. "You know, the types of olives and cheeses and halal meats and bread, and all the ingredients that are used in the Middle Eastern cooking."
The market sits off Schafer Road, which has grown into a primary shopping district and borders the neighborhood to the east. Michigan Avenue borders it to the south and has more shopping and dining options, including Haraz Coffee House, a popular local chain known for its broad pastry selection and Yemeni coffee. Like most coffee shops in Dearborn, Haraz is a go-to hangout spot open until 11 p.m., seven days a week. Ford Road borders Colson Ruby to the north and is home to big box stores like Walmart and Best Buy.
