Georgetown Commons
Neighborhood in Dearborn, Michigan
Wayne County 48126
1930s and 40s houses that hardly go up for sale
Small cottages, bungalows and colonial-style houses built in the 1930s and 40s line the streets. While most options are single-family, there are also many two-family flats and a few small apartment complexes. With an average lot size of just 4,400 square feet, homes have small front and backyards and are only a few feet from their neighbors. Generally, properties are separated by driveways. Due to older infrastructure, minor street flooding can be an issue in this neighborhood. There are also train tracks on the south side that cause noise throughout the day. Homes hardly hit the market, but three houses sold in 2024. Their prices ranged from $220,000 to $325,000.Visiting Hemlock Park
There aren't any parks with Georgetown Commons, so residents have to travel for recreation. Hemlock Park is about a mile north of this neighborhood and is one of the largest greenspaces in east Dearborn. It has walking and biking trails, a baseball field and a playground. Fawaz says that families head to the park during summer to enjoy picnics and let kids play outside.Miller Elementary, Stout Middle and Fordson High School
From kindergarten through eighth grade, kids can attend Miller Elementary, which has a B-minus rating on Niche. Stout Middle School is the next step and also has a B-minus. Fordson High School has a B and is ranked the 25th-best public high school in Wayne County. All Dearborn public schools offer halal lunches and prayer accommodations, which Fawaz says is a plus for many. "It feels like they don't have to worry too much because their ideal or principles or religious obligations are honored," he says. "Like fasting, not eating certain foods and stuff like that. Those things are important to them."The Ramadan Suhoor Festival and Dearborn Homecoming
The Ramadan Suhoor Festival, held at Fairlane Mall, is the largest in North America. It attracts thousands of Muslims from across the state to Dearborn annually, allowing them a safe space to congregate and break fasting. The festival features dozens of food vendors and various activities. Ford Field Park is home to the annual Dearborn Homecoming Festival. The three-day summer event features live music, carnival rides, food vendors and a fireworks display.Walkability, Interstate 94 and the Southfield Freeway
Residents of Georgetown Commons can walk to schools, stores and mosques, including Masjid Al-Salaam. They can also easily access major highways. Michigan Avenue meets with I-94 about a half mile east of the neighborhood and the Southfield Freeway about 3 miles west. While access to I-94 is convenient, it can cause noise pollution during rush hour. Henry Ford Medical Center-Fairlane offers 24-hour medical care and is about 4 miles west. Detroit Metro Airport is 13 miles west.Shopping on Michigan, Schaefer and Prospect
Residents can walk to Michigan Avenue, which borders this neighborhood to the north, for a broad selection of stores, restaurants and services. While many storefronts along Michigan were closed in the past decade, the thoroughfare is seeing a resurgence. "Everywhere you turn is a new place opening up, and they have something better than the last place you went to," Fawaz says. Residents can walk to the original Haraz Coffee House to grab Yemini coffee or classic lattes at Mokaccino Café. Dining options range from Middle Eastern staples at La Shish to Detroit-style coneys at Joe's Top Dog Restaurant. Prospect Avenue is home to Maza Foods, a Costco-style bulk grocery store, and Dearborn Produce Wholesale. Grocery stores are also along Schaefer Road, which borders Georgetown Commons to the west. The Fish Market offers seafood on ice, while Dearborn Fresh Supermarket is known for its broad selection of Arabic ingredients and halal meats.Slightly higher crime risk
Georgetown Commons's crime index score is slightly elevated at 6 out of 10, compared to the US average of 4.
