In Georgetown Commons, culture and industry meet in southeast Dearborn. Located just north of the Ford Rouge Complex, this neighborhood was once primarily occupied by plant workers in the 1930s and 40s, many of whom were Middle Eastern immigrants looking to build better lives for their families. Since then, Georgetown Commons and surrounding neighborhoods have grown into culturally rich communities. "The people who have moved into Dearborn looking for work at the Ford plant, they settled down and built these like ethnic enclaves," says Victor Fawaz, Realtor with Re/Max Team 2000. "That's impacted the culture of these areas. You have the shops, the stores, and stuff like that." Community and convenience are the primary reasons buyers look to Georgetown Commons. While it's not as affluent as neighborhoods like Colson Ruby or Ford Woods, it is a more affordable starting point. It's also primarily renter-occupied, so it appeals to many investors.

Shopping on Michigan, Schaefer and Prospect
Residents can walk to Michigan Avenue, which borders this neighborhood to the north, for a broad selection of stores, restaurants and services. While many storefronts along Michigan were closed in the past decade, the thoroughfare is seeing a resurgence. "Everywhere you turn is a new place opening up, and they have something better than the last place you went to," Fawaz says. Residents can walk to the original Haraz Coffee House to grab Yemini coffee or classic lattes at Mokaccino Café. Dining options range from Middle Eastern staples at La Shish to Detroit-style coneys at Joe's Top Dog Restaurant. Prospect Avenue is home to Maza Foods, a Costco-style bulk grocery store, and Dearborn Produce Wholesale. Grocery stores are also along Schaefer Road, which borders Georgetown Commons to the west. The Fish Market offers seafood on ice, while Dearborn Fresh Supermarket is known for its broad selection of Arabic ingredients and halal meats.

1930s and 40s houses that hardly go up for sale
Small cottages, bungalows and colonial-style houses built in the 1930s and 40s line the streets. While most options are single-family, there are also many two-family flats and a few small apartment complexes. With an average lot size of just 4,400 square feet, homes have small front and backyards and are only a few feet from their neighbors. Generally, properties are separated by driveways. Due to older infrastructure, minor street flooding can be an issue in this neighborhood. There are also train tracks on the south side that cause noise throughout the day. Homes hardly hit the market, but three houses sold in 2024. Their prices ranged from $220,000 to $325,000.

Fordson High School has a B and is ranked the 25th-best public high school in Wayne County. All Dearborn public schools offer halal lunches and prayer accommodations, which Fawaz says is a plus for many. "It feels like they don't have to worry too much because their ideal or principles or religious obligations are honored," he says. "Like fasting, not eating certain foods and stuff like that. Those things are important to them."
Stout Middle School's athletics motto is "Stout Strong".
Fordson High School earned a "B" rating in 2025, according to Niche.
