Most of Fairview consists of bungalows and ranch-style homes, with a few newer properties appearing on some of the streets. Bungalow homes can range from $120,000 to $299,981 and ranch-style homes range from $169,900 to $340,000. “The homes are old, but well kept,” Smith says. Newer construction is beginning to appear in Fairview but remains rare. New Traditional homes have the widest price ranges, beginning around $315,000 to about $700,000. There are some sidewalks throughout the neighborhood, but most streets do not have any. “The housing market is starting to move a lot quicker here,” says Smith. “New plants are going in, in Huntsville and tons of people go to Huntsville for work.” Homes have paved driveways but may not have an attached garage or carport. To the north is Delano Park, the oldest in the city. Within the municipally run facility is a rose garden, first planted in 1934. The park also has playgrounds and a walking path. Pop Oliver Park, located within Fairview, is smaller and has a playground along with tennis courts. Behind the elementary school are tennis courts, open to the public. About 2 miles south is the 700-acre Point Mallard Park. It has an 18-hole golf course, water park and camping sites. Students can begin their education at Walter Jackson Elementary School, which is graded an A-minus by Niche. Walter Jackson Elementary School was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2022. Decatur Middle School earns a B and sits across the road from the high school. Decatur Middle offers a variety of robotic courses. Decatur High School earns an A-minus. Decatur City Schools offers 19 Advanced Placement courses between its two high schools — Decatur and Austin — with only Decatur High offering an AP Seminar class.Decatur city events and hot air balloons
Decatur has several city-sponsored events, including 3rd Fridays. “The city shuts down downtown and there’s food trucks, music,” says Smith. “People walk up and down the street. The dogs get to come.” Point Mallard Park hosts a variety of Family Fun Events throughout the year, including the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic that takes place over Memorial Day weekend. The free festival features dozens of hot air balloons and attractions, including tethered rides, food vendors and arts and crafts.Close to interstate and Decatur Morgan Hospital

Gateway Shopping Center is located on U.S. Highway 31, with a Hometown Market for groceries in addition to a Big Lots and Family Dollar. La Guerrerense is a general Mexican store. Walmart Neighborhood Market is further north on U.S. Highway 31. Current: Coffee + Collectibles has a vegetarian café inside the store alongside trading cards and tabletop games. At the intersection of U.S. Highway 31 and State Highway 67 is The Crossings of Decatur, home to a Target, Ross Dress for Less and The Moody Crab.
