Along one of Decatur's northern borders sits Camelot, a small residential community zoned for the Argenta-Oreana school district. School zoning and home prices primarily attract buyers to the neighborhood, says Sherry Plain, a Decatur native and real estate agent with Brinkoetter Realtors. While no commercial centers or parks are within the neighborhood, many are within 2 miles. Residents are also within 2 miles of major employers and Interstate 72, which Plain says makes this very northern community feel almost centrally located.
Leafy streets and apartment living
Bi-level homes, ranch-style houses and the occasional bungalow line Camelot's wide, leafy streets. Towering trees offer much-needed shade during warmer months and pepper lawns with bright red-and-orange leaves in fall. Homes sit snugly beside one another, so some homeowners add chain link fences around their yards to create extra cushion. A majority of homes sell between $70,000 and $80,000, but houses in the $90,000 to $110,000 range also make it onto the market. A few condominiums and a sizable apartment complex are in the neighborhood's southern half.

Zoned for Argenta-Oreana school district
Although located in Decatur, students are zoned for the Argenta-Oreana Community Unit School District. "Most people buy there because of the school district," says Plain. "They like that it has a small-town school feel. Plus, if they want to get into that school district while still living in Decatur but their price point for a home is a bit lower, Camelot is their best bet." Students attend Argenta-Oreana Elementary School, which has a B-minus Niche grade, followed by the C-rated Argenta-Oreana Middle School. Older students attend Argenta-Oreana High School, which has a C-plus rating and frequent college and career information sessions. Students exploring potential careers can connect with representatives from the Midwest Technical Institute, the University of Illinois Springfield, the U.S. Army and more.
