The golf course in the Country Manor neighborhood is the Decator Country Club and is private.
Country Manor and its endless course
Country Manor, a neighborhood defined by its expansive country club, attracts homeowners looking to live away from city life without being completely cut off. Between two major highways, residents can travel into town or up to Forsythe in just a few miles. The area is also sandwiched between Lake Decatur and the Decatur Airport, offering near immediate access to the water and the sky. Home prices are diverse, creating a flexible landscape for people to buy into.
Country Manor is home to the Decatur Country Club where members play on the well-kept greens.
Private club privileges across seven clubs
The Country Club of Decatur majorly defines the landscape of Country Manor. Its 18-hole championship golf course sprawls across the neighborhood. It also features a massive clubhouse, golf pro shop, Olympic-size pool and professional-grade tennis and pickleball courts. "It's an exclusive amenity. You do have to get a membership," says Stephanie Sibthorp, area expert and real estate agent at Glenda Williamson Realty. "But membership isn't a requirement to live in the neighborhood." The club does offer the flexibility to have an all-inclusive membership or just a social one, which excludes golf-related and voting privileges. Members also enjoy reciprocal privileges at seven other Central Illinois country clubs. Boating is also a popular pastime, as Lake Decatur is directly west of the area. Next to the Country Club of Decatur is Fishing Spot Boat Launch, where boaters and jet skiers can take off onto the waters of the Staley Basin. For free fun on land, Baker Woods Estate Park to the south features nature trails, playground equipment, a shaded pavilion and a pond.
A favorite spot to eat is the airport where Everybody's East End Grill is the best for dining.
Steakhouse bites by the flights
Retail and dining options aren't as readily available in Country Manor, but one local favorite is right next door. Everyone's East End Grill is tucked into the Decatur Airport, although customers don't need a ticket to enter. Specializing in comfort food and steakhouse dishes, the restaurant locally sources all of its meat, which is delivered fresh daily. A little over 2 miles south is Illinois State Route 121, an avenue lined with chain restaurants and brands like Walmart, Kroger and Aldi. On the other side of Lake Decatur, 2 miles away, are small businesses like New Moon Cafe, which has a full-service dining room, a buffet bar, pool tables and occasional live music. Whit's End Inc. has a similar vibe two doors down, serving southern comfort food ranging from fried chicken to gizzards in a laidback bar. For all other needs, Downtown Decatur is 5 miles from the neighborhood.
The Decatur airport is a modest commercial hub near the Country Manor neighborhood.
Connections to Chicago O'Hare
The neighborhood is notably beside the Decatur Airport, meaning locals don't have to drive far to catch flights if they are okay with a layover. "It's a small airport with one terminal," says Brittany Lamb, Decatur local and Realtor at Brinkoetter Realtors. "Only a few planes go in and out with United Airlines, and they're not large, so it's not really a bother in terms of noise." The airport makes connections to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, expanding travelers' options immensely. For nearby travel, there are a few city bus stops along South Airport Road, but most people get around by car. The area is about 1 mile from Illinois State Route 105 and 1-1/2 miles from Highway 36. Each is an avenue into Downtown Decatur, as well as Forsythe.

Home styles split on location
Sibthorp says people are drawn to this part of town because of its tranquility. "You're not in the thick of the bustle of the city, but you're still within minutes of where you need to go." While the golf course takes up most of the area, residents can settle into two distinct pockets. The northeast holds a small U-shaped cluster of ranch-style homes costing between $100,000 and $140,000. To the south of the country club is more diverse; more ranches sit beside two-story homes that incorporate New Traditional and entirely custom design elements. These homes set along sidewalked roads typically have over 3,000 square feet, which raises the price range to between $200,000 and $300,000. Some listings even reach up to $400,000. In the south are also two prominent houses of worship: Lampstand Presbyterian Church and Covenant Reformed Baptist Church.
Eisenhower High School provides a safe environment for students.
Agricultural education at Eisenhower High
At the end of 2023, Illinois discontinued its statewide school choice program, so students attend their assigned schools within the district. Baum Elementary School is the assigned primary school, teaching kindergarten through sixth grade. Seventh and eighth graders attend Stephen Decatur Middle School. Both schools earn a C-minus score on Niche. Eisenhower High School is home to the Dwayne O. Andreas Ag Academy, which focuses on agricultural education. It earns a C-plus Niche score.
