Well-kept midcentury homes
Most of the homes were built between the 1950s and 1970s, and the architectural designs reflect this, with ranch-style and split-level homes being common and the occasional bungalow appearing. “Despite their age, homes in the area are beautifully maintained,” says Patrick McDaniel, city councilman for Decatur. “It’s a nice, safe area.” Quarter-acre lawns and single-car driveways with garages are standard, and the greenery of oak and maple trees decorates the front yards. Older homes needing renovation cost between the low $30,000s and low $80,000s. Well-kept home prices begin in the low $100,000s and climb into the low $200,000s as construction gets newer and larger. The average cost for a home in the area runs in the high $170,000s, lower than the state average in the mid-$260,000s and the national average in the mid-$500,000s.
Some of the larger, and nicer houses can range above 200k.
