Rustic atmosphere and suburban comforts
Windsor Village is part of a collection of well-maintained suburban neighborhoods that cluster in Decatur’s northernmost region, adjacent to the neighboring village of Forsyth and the seemingly endless farmlands of central Illinois. As a result, many residential streets and culs-de-sac have a woodsy quality, with steady, tree-driven shade covering driveways and yards in the warmer months. However, this rustic atmosphere doesn’t keep residents far from amenities, and popular dining and retail spots are always right around the corner. With real estate prices well below the national average, Windsor Village has a well-established reputation as a family-friendly community.

Extensive mid-century homes
Most homes are from the 1960s and '70s and tend toward mid-century designs like craftsman, split-level and ranch-style. Lawns are dotted with trees and foliage and tend to fall beneath a quarter of an acre. However, the homes themselves are frequently larger than the state average of 1,620 square feet. Prices start in the low $60,000s for older homes and those needing updates, and max out in the mid $200,000s as construction gets newer and better maintained.
Manicured lawns are prevalent in the Windsor Village area.

Small class sizes at Our Lady of Lourdes
Students attend Parsons Elementary School, which has a C grade from Niche. They move on to Stephen Decatur Middle School, which receives a C-minus rating. From there they attend MacArthur High, earning a C-plus. The school offers the Prep Academy, a program for students to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree. Those interested in a private school experience can apply to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, which serves prekindergarten through eighth grade and isn’t rated by Niche. “We take pride in our small class sizes, which are helpful to our students,” says Principal Jennifer Brummer. “But our teachers are so important—they really love their kids.”
Local shopping and chain restaurants
The central area of the neighborhood is a hotbed of retail and dining options, with Target, Sam’s Club and Walmart Supercenter sharing space with familiar franchises like Olive Garden and Chipotle. Three miles north in Forsyth, the Hickory Point Mall offers dozens of shopping experiences. El Rodeo features classic Mexican standards like fajitas and tacos in a colorful, laid-back atmosphere.

Pickleball at Cresthaven Park
Cresthaven Park is an 83-acre green space with basketball courts, picnic pavilions, walking trails and more. Local pickleball fanatics are particularly fond of its six hard courts, suited for friendly and competitive play. Located 1 mile east, East Mound Park features vast stretches of soccer fields, playground equipment and acres of lush woodlands. Animal lovers of all ages are frequent visitors to the Scovill Zoo, 7 miles southeast in the Scoville Gardens community. An institution in Decatur since 1967, the zoo features over 400 animals from across the world.
Easy access to downtown
U.S. Route 51 follows the neighborhood's eastern border, creating a direct line to Downtown Decatur, less than 4 miles south. Sidewalks aren’t typical in the area, but the Decatur Public Transit System offers a bus system that stops just short of Forsyth to the north and has several stops along U.S. Route 51.
Highway 51 offers Windsor Village residents access to the rest of Decatur.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
