Broward Highlands
Nearing renovation stage
Being so close to the beach, the prices are lower than what might be expected. “Most of the homes are from the 1960s and ‘70s,” Staziaki says. “They’re simple homes that attract people who work blue-collar jobs. Many people who live here are working in construction. It’s a diverse mix of people.” Some homes that need renovation may be less than $400,000, but the price range is usually between $400,000 and $500,000. “The ones with pools are the most expensive. Those are closer to $500,000,” Staziaki adds. About 30% of the homes in Broward Highlands have pools in the backyard: Ranch-style, some colorful as is common in Florida, Spanish-style one-story homes, some with circular driveways are common to see. Palm trees typically shade the sidewalks. There are also condos and duplexes. Sixty-one percent of Broward Highlands residents are homeowners.Hop on the bus, Gus, or the train, Elaine
