Dellwood provides options for first-time homebuyers

The Village of Dellwood in North St. Louis County, about 12 miles from downtown St. Louis, is a place where someone new to homeownership can get a good start. “Somebody who wants to have the independence of having their own home can find that here,” says Rebecca Harrington, a Realtor with RE/MAX who sells homes in the area and lives close by. “It’s a smaller, established community. It’s a diverse area. It’s near St. Louis Community College. It has convenient access to the highway and is commutable.”

Brick and midcentury ranch styles in Dellwood

With residents' approval, Dellwood’s founders incorporated the area as a village back in 1951. That’s when Dellwood was born. And with loads of mid-century brick modern ranch-style homes, the community has preserved much of that aesthetic. “They have a mix of housing stock. They have some bigger and some smaller, some brick, some frame, some two-story and of course ranch-style.” The median price for a single-family home here is about $115,000, with houses generally selling from around $90,000 to $120,000.
