Alkire Acres is a friendly community near the Rocky Mountain foothills
Alkire Acres is barely more than a mile wide, but walk the length of the Littleton neighborhood, and you’re likely to pass giggling kids in the park and chatty neighbors on the sidewalks. While geographically small, this dense residential pocket comes with a vibrancy created by its friendly residents. All the while, the foothills of the Rocky Mountains looming in the distance create incredible scenery, says Chris Sholts, an Alkire Acres resident who runs Littleton’s Growth Golf Academy. “Being so close to the foothills, you can’t beat it.”
Alkire Acres is located about 30 minutes southwest of Denver, which is accessible by 470.

Neighborhoods are filled with trees and greenery
Strolling the neighborhood’s sidewalks, you’ll sometimes see summits peeking over wooden fences and gabled roofs. The neighborhood’s contemporary bungalows and town houses offer the choice between small yards and no yard, but the heavy dose of oaks and pines planted throughout Alkire Acres provide plenty of greenery. The compact home styles here put residents close to their neighbors. But that’s not an issue, according to Sholts. In fact, he says running into and talking with fellow residents of his cul-de-sac is one of the best parts about living in Alkire Acres. Buyers who don’t need much living space can grab a one-bedroom condo unit in the low $400,000s, but single-family homes are likely to be priced between the low $500,000s and the low $700,000s. The average house sits for less than two weeks before it’s sold, so house hunters can expect to face a healthy dose of competition in this fast-paced housing market.

Outdoor recreation includes climbing walls and trails
Next to Mount Carbon Elementary is Sgt. Timothy M. Mossbrucker Memorial Park. The playground’s cragged climbing wall resembles the mountain peaks in the distance, while its open landscape provides ample space to organize games. A trail leads from the elementary campus to the park, so kids only need to be escorted a short way for an after-school playdate. If an unexpected rain shower or the wintry weather scuttle plans for the park, it’s only 3 miles to catch a movie at the local AMC theater.

You can get the latter at Antonio’s, a café with barely enough room to squeeze into a table among the shelves of pasta sauce and noodles for sale.
