Capitol Hill offers parks and employer access near downtown

Capitol Hill is a lively, downtown Denver neighborhood appealing to government workers and buyers looking to be in the heart of the city’s arts and commercial scene. As its name suggests, the neighborhood is home to the Colorado State Capitol, a gold-domed building recognizable across the state hosting roughly 500 employees. Along with serving as the center of the state government, Capitol Hill is a hub for dining, nightlife and entertainment. Residents are always within a short walk of restaurants, while theaters and music venues line Colfax Avenue to the north. Directly west of the neighborhood is Denver’s Golden Triangle, known for its array of history and art museums.

Housing styles and price points

With its active downtown atmosphere, most of the Capitol Hill housing scene is comprised of townhomes and high-rise condo buildings. Units range from 400-square-foot one-bedroom condos to 3,000-square-foot penthouses with luxury interiors. You can also find a mix of newly built apartment complexes, converted single-family homes and repurposed industrial buildings. Units start in the low $100,000s and reach up to $1.3 million. The area also has a selection of historic single-family homes, from classic Denver Foursquares to brick Victorian cottages. Most homes feature quaint, fenced-in back lots with just enough room for a patio or a small garden. These houses range from the mid $500,000s to roughly $2.2 million.

Access to the Colorado Capitol and other hubs

“Neighborhoods like Capitol Hill and Uptown are as close to that big-city living feel that you can get in Denver,” says Steven Kinney, a Denver real estate broker with Re/Max Professionals. “It has the vibe of a big, old city like Washington, D.C., Boston or New York.” This big-city atmosphere can be seen in the neighborhood’s historic buildings, high rises and museums. The state capitol building is known for its stately architecture, with the grounds serving as a popular space to enjoy the outdoors in the warmer months. Civic Center Park, across the street from the capitol, hosts a variety of events, from food truck days to the annual Denver PrideFest. The neighborhood is also right next to the Golden Triangle, a district known for its museums and venues. The Denver Art Museum has seven stories, with exhibits ranging from fashion archives to modern art galleries. The Clyfford Still Museum and the History Colorado Center are both around the corner, along with the Molly Brown House Museum, where visitors can walk through the stately Victorian home of Molly Brown, a Denver philanthropist and survivor of the Titanic.

Right in the heart of Denver, close to all the museums, galleries and the Denver Botanical Gardens. People were very friendly and accommodating at the restaurants and other places I visited. Overall it was a great visit and I would like to visit again in the future.
