Vibrant Denver community filled with colorful displays
Color and construction fill the River North Arts District streets, commonly known as RiNo. Vacant industrial buildings received fresh paint and renovations between the 1980s and 1990s, transforming into chic condominium complexes, galleries and restaurants. A second wave of construction began in the 2020s as new condominiums joined the converted condo complexes. "You can't drive past it on the interstate without seeing at least eight cranes towering in the sky. It's crazy," says David McKelfresh, a broker with Thrive Real Estate Group who holds over six years of experience. "RiNo really was the last stretch of downtown to see any kind of activity – no one wanted it – now it's got a World Trade Center." While parts of the area take on new shapes, RiNo remains a place for creativity and collaboration.
River North's old industrial buildings have mostly been converted into homes and shops.

Flavors along Larimer and shops around Walnut Street
The scent of Italian seasonings and fresh bread fills the air upon entry to The Denver Central Market, a food hall with a fish market. Further down Larimer Street, taprooms and restaurants curb cravings, from sushi served by conveyor belt at Sushi-Rama RiNo to Spanish and Mediterranean flavors at Barcelona Wine Bar. “Improper City is one of my favorites,” says Caroline Campbell, Public Relations and Communications Manager at Visit Denver. “They have a nice garden where we love to sit. Our Mutual Friend is also a great brewery that often has a lot of different collabs.” Shoppers fill their carts with groceries at Natural Grocers across from the Pepsi plant or can go to 20th Street to shop at the King Soopers. A trip to Walnut Street helps prepare outdoor enthusiasts for their next outing with a Burton flagship store and a Patagonia.

Galleries, graffiti and concert venues
Art galleries dot the streets between Larimer and Walnut streets. Artists not only leave their mark on the canvases and creations displayed in the gallery but also on colorful murals decorating building exteriors. “We have mural arts tours that go throughout the district, and it gives visitors and residents – I’ve taken it a lot – a good feel for the neighborhood, touring around different pieces, getting a lot of background on the artist and their inspiration,” Campbell says. As a popular social media post backdrop, Graffiti Alley gives artists a space to tell stories through colors and shapes. Art is the main focus during First Friday Art Walks, where the community strolls the streets, hopping into galleries, nearby food halls and bars each month. Crowds move to the beat at concerts hosted at different venues throughout the district, from ReelWorks Denver’s dance floor to The Mission Ballroom’s concrete benches.
There's plenty of street-art on display at the RiNo Art Park in Denver.

Condos converted from factories and single-family homes
Brick exteriors from the 1900s wear painted signs indicating their past lives as textile shops and factories. Inside, there is no doubt they belong in the 21st century, converted and outfitted with modern appliances and the latest amenities. These repurposed buildings with exposed brick walls and wooden beams list between $475,000 for a one-bedroom condo and $864,000 for a three-bedroom, two-story condo. The newer 2020s condo developments line the South Platte River, adding city and water views to the list of available amenities.
Single-family homes pack the street grid between Interstate 70 and Interstate 25, just north of the railroad tracks. These bungalows are steps from the Globeville Center’s indoor community gym. These homes list between $245,000 for a two-bedroom and $600,000 for a five-bedroom.
Some factories in River North have been repurposed as condo complexes, like this building.

Mestizo-Curtis Park and walks along the promenade
RiNo neighbors Denver’s oldest park, Mestizo-Curtis Park. In 1987, the park earned the prefix “Mestizo” to symbolize the mixture of cultures and ethnicities rooted in the community. Today, walkers and bikers travel along paths winded throughout the open greenspace, passing children playing on the playground and basketball players competing on the painted court. A dive into the park’s public outdoor swimming pool helps cool off swimmers when temperatures reach the summertime high average of 91 degrees Fahrenheit. RiNo Art Park connects to the South Platte Trail, where a steady stream of joggers and bikers take in the riverside sights. Campbell says that the Arkins Promenade has an outdoor, raised sidewalk along the river that children love to explore. The area is shaded by trees, with seating areas for taking a break along bike rides and strolls.

Travel from Broadway to Larimer Street
Cars pass through the intersection of Interstate 70 and Interstate 25 in RiNo’s northwest corner. This steady traffic flow reaches destinations across the Denver metro area, including the Denver International Airport, 18 miles east. The Blake light rail station, overseen by the Regional Transportation District (RTD), sits on the A Line, connecting Union Station to the airport. Leading into Downtown Denver, RTD bus stops line Broadway and Larimer Street. Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s traditional brick exterior stands out among the colorful artwork flashing by car and bus windows on Larimer Street. Some buildings along this stretch have gates for decoration and added security. RiNo has a CAP Index Crime Score of 9 out of 10, compared to the U.S. national average of 4, including a 10 in property crime.
RTD busses run throughout the entire River North neighborhood.
