Conner Creek offers rare luxury homes in northeast Detroit
Listings over $2 million for single-family homes in Detroit are rare, but in the Conner Creek neighborhood, gated waterfront properties are fetching upwards of that amount as popularity in the area increases. The Conner Creek neighborhood is in the northeastern part of the city near major highways for easy accessibility for residents and visitors alike. The area is a mix of families, professionals and retirees.
Views of Belle Isle and the river drive demand and increasing prices
The housing market in Conner Creek has seen positive trends in recent years, with increasing demand and stable property values. Conner Creek was originally developed as a residential area for workers in the nearby auto industry. Over the years, it has evolved into a mix of residential, commercial and industrial spaces. The architectural style of homes in Conner Creek varies, ranging from brick bungalows to larger, more modern houses. The price range of homes in the neighborhood is typically between $75,000 and $2 million, offering options for different budgets and preferences. “You’re getting property here that overlooks Belle Isle and the Detroit River and that provides a beautiful view of the skyline,” says Laura Davis, associate broker for GAP Realty Group of Southgate. “There’s not a lot of waterfront properties in Detroit, so that makes this area very unique.”
Charter and public schools are highly regarded and involved
Several schools in the area offer quality education. According to Niche, the best schools in the area are Clippert Academy, Western International High School and Earhart Elementary-Middle School. These schools have high rankings for academics, diversity and extracurricular activities. Also, the highly regarded University Yes Academy is a public charter school that serves students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade and is known for its rigorous academic programs and community support.
Residents enjoy playgrounds, picnic areas and walking paths
In addition to the schools, Conner Creek also offers various parks and recreational spaces for residents to enjoy. Residents can take advantage of the natural beauty and tranquility of parks like Conner Creek Greenway Park, which offers walking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds. The presence of these parks enhances the quality of life in the neighborhood and provides residents with spaces to relax and engage in physical activities.
A mix of upscale restaurants, ethnic eats and trendy retail nearby
When it comes to dining options, Conner Creek boasts a variety of restaurants and eateries that cater to different tastes and preferences. From cozy cafes to ethnic cuisines, residents have a range of choices to satisfy their culinary cravings. Some popular restaurants in the area include Joe Muir’s in the Renaissance Center, which features local seafood, and Pegasus Taverna in Greektown for authentic Greek food. For a little more upscale dining, Davis recommends the nearby Grey Ghost restaurant for their short rib dumplings, lamb cordon bleu or bavette steak.
For groceries, Davis says there are several smaller, independently owned markets like Harbortown and larger ones like Whole Food and Meijer nearby. For clothing, Davis says Woodward Avenue now has a number of nationally recognized stores as well as some local retail shops. “The area is transforming, downtown especially,” says Davis. “It’s becoming chic and trendy.”
