From its name to its nightlife, art and innovation permeate the Elijah McCoy neighborhood. Named after one of the most prolific Black inventors of the late 19th century, this community has experienced rapid growth over the past decade. While it's often lumped with its neighbor to the west, Northwest Goldberg, Elijah McCoy has a more modern, artistic and industrial feel. "It's a very hot area for development and redevelopment," says Ed Butler, a realtor with @properties Christie's Int'l R.E. Birmingham. "Developers are buying older, dilapidated houses in the neighborhood and are rebuilding Victorian-style homes, in addition to condo developments." Anchored by Henry Ford Hospital, this neighborhood is just minutes from Midtown and Downtown.
