Generations in Grant
In Grant, there is an abundance of long-standing homes and businesses that have served the community for generations. While a good part of the area is industrial, plenty of unique shops and restaurants lend personality to this Detroit suburb.
Large Porches
Hidden gem homes in Grant
Grant's residential areas feature a large number of ranches, bungalows and Colonial-style homes. Many of these homes are designed with sloping roofs, large porches, small lawn spaces and narrow sidewalks. With most houses constructed between the 1920s and '50s, many of the homes are in need of renovations. Home prices begin around $19,000 and can go up to $150,000, depending on how much work the home may need.
Traveling down Van Dyke
Van Dyke Avenue serves as the major roadway in the area, and Grant is located about 10 miles from downtown Detroit.

Wine and spirits
Grant includes restaurants that not only serve delicious food but each carry their own bit of local history. "Marcus Hamburgers is pretty much a local landmark around there. It's been around for a really long time," says Mario Como, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices Kee Realty SCS who grew up in this area. In fact, the famed burger joint, with its original Marcus Burger, has been satisfying appetites since 1929. Motown Cafe & Grill, named after Detroit's iconic music genre, serves up sandwiches, burgers, seafood dinners and more. Towne Club is Detroit’s original pop -- as in soda, for the non-Midwesterners -- shop, offering an assortment of quirky flavors, such as Michigan Cherry, Honolulu Blue Cream and Tiger Citrus Punch. Venture inside Detroit's oldest bar, the Two Way Inn. Founded in 1876, this bar comes with some interesting local history. While sipping cocktails, patrons might see the ghost of Col. Philetus Norris, a Civil War veteran who built the bar, or perhaps the "Lady in White," a specter who is believed to be his daughter. No need to be alarmed-- the bar is considered by its patrons to be spirited in a warm sense rather than a scary one. Residents can find quality items while shopping Joe Randazzo’s Fruit & Vegetable Market, which has been providing produce to the region for decades.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
