Proud homeowners on Harbor Island Street
The neighborhood features many Craftsman Bungalows, colonials, ranch-styles, and Cape Cod style homes. On Harbor Island Street, river-fronted homes with boat parking make a trip on the Detroit waterways a breeze. "It has an eclectic feel and there's a lot of old history that people have worked really hard to hold onto. It’s a neighborhood where the residents take a lot of pride in where they live. These people have worked really hard to renovate and maintain their properties. There's a lot of historic brick colonials, and they're all just beautiful homes," Wheeler says. Home prices in this area tend to range from $75,000 for a single-family unit up to $750,000 for a larger home on the waterfront.

Down by the Detroit River
Alfred Brush Ford Park features a renovated community center that hosts many activities for residents, including dance classes, karaoke and arts-and-crafts. Mariner Park offers front-row seat viewing of the Detroit River. At Maheras-Gentry Park, visitors can fish or go hiking and explore its 52 acres.

Carstens Academy of Aquatic Science has a C-minus rating from Niche and offers a robust STEM program where students can learn about environmental science, forensics and robotics. Jefferson Chalmers has many flavors to taste. At Coriander Kitchen and Farm, diners can try different small plates all while enjoying marina-side dining. They can also stop by Detroit Soul, a local favorite, and enjoy some of their fried catfish. Norma G's Detroit is a Caribbean spot that serves up festive specialty cocktails and gourmet oxtail.
