Increasing residential development near downtown Detroit
North Corktown is a Detroit neighborhood with history, mixed architecture and a location close to the city’s arts and dining scenes. While the neighborhood’s single-family homes were built primarily in the early 1900s, more modern townhouse developments now mingle in among those older homes. “North Corktown received a $30 million federal grant to create more affordable housing and improve infrastructure and support services,” says Todd Sykes, Vice President of New Development Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. Sykes says the resulting development and the neighborhood’s close proximity to downtown Detroit’s restaurants and museums have attracted the attention of homeowners looking to combine some of the city’s best characteristics.
