Homes are on the larger side
Housing in the area is a mixed bag, including single-family homes, duplexes and triplexes. Many of the homes in the neighborhood are on the larger side, built in the early 1900s and are primarily brick ranches, colonial revivals and craftsman style. According to Erica Collica of Max Broock, REALTORS-Detroit, this “up-and-coming area” has an active community. Homes in this community can cost anywhere from $62,000 to $544,000. “You can find a really nice 2,000-square-foot home for $250,000,” says Collica. She adds that the area continues to go through a facelift, with newly paved roads and new bike paths, making a move to the area even more enticing. Single-family homes can start at $174,000. Homes on the high end can run as high as $700,000. Properties tend to be 2,616 square feet and sit on lots of 6,000 square feet. Nearly 60% of residents rent their homes and 75% of the area’s structures are commercial spaces.Hamtramck Academy serves K-8 students
Schools serving the neighborhood include the A-minus-rated charter Hamtramck Academy, which enrolls 520 kindergarten through eighth-grade students. The tuition-free school placed in the top 50% of all schools in Michigan for overall test scores. The school was in the top 30% for math. The local high school, Southeastern High School, has a C Niche-ranking. Nearly 20 colleges and universities are near the neighborhood, including Michigan State University Detroit Center.The Q-Line serves the area
The major highways near North End are interstates 94, 75 and 375. Commuters can The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) serves the city, while SMART services the suburbs. The two systems coordinate their services with an operating alliance and reciprocal fare agreement handled by the RTA of Southeast Michigan. There are two local subway stops: Cadillac Center and Greektown. Additionally, there are two bus stops: Oakland & E Grand Bl and Oakland & Bethune. All stations are a part of the Q-Line. Long-distance travelers can depend on service from two local airports: Detroit Metro Wayne County and Windsor International Airport. Windsor is located in nearby Ontario, Canada.Free movie screenings
Several community-focused events include the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Plan discussion and the Active Older Adult Fitness weekly events. “This is an extremely active community,” says Collica. Residents can catch free movie screenings under the stars from June through August at New Center Park.
