Located in northwestern Detroit, and embraced by Interstate 96, the Pride Area Community sits at a crossroads both in location and character. Not only do residents have access to the crisscrossed conveniences of a major freeway and the Grand River Avenue retail corridor, but also live within a neighborhood where vintage houses meet with recent refurbishments to present excellent opportunities for homebuying. With plenty of promise in its future, the Pride Area Community is a viable choice for home-shoppers looking for freshly revitalized homes in this part of the city.

Like its neighbors in northwest Detroit, the Pride Area Community has a long and diverse history. Most of this neighborhood’s homes were built from the 1920s to 1940s as Motor City’s automotive industry took off, and the Pride Area’s housing scene weaves a tapestry of midcentury housing styles. The Pride Area also shares in Detroit’s longstanding struggles, with deindustrialization leading to a decline in both property values and the neighborhood’s fortunes. Recent years have brought new life to this community as its vintage homes have been refurbished and reappraised, their former glory restored and their visages as appealing now as they were a century ago. Realtor Rashad Elabed says of the community today, “It’s a quiet, cozy, gorgeous neighborhood in the heart of Detroit with easy access to Grand River Avenue and all major freeways.” Niche.com gives this community an A-minus rating for its commutability, by far its greatest strength, with cost of living coming in close second.

This cost of living varies for each homeowner, as revitalized Tudors and cottages sit beside older homes in need of sprucing-up. Elabed says, “Homes here are perfect for owner-occupants looking to move into a home to call their own, or an investor looking to place tenants and collect monthly rental income.” Houses vary in price from $40,000 to $162,000, reflecting the Pride Area Community’s selection of homes of different styles, sizes, and conditions.

The Pride Area Community’s location along Grand River Avenue not only benefits commuters, but also residents desiring ease of access to daily needs and the occasional culinary adventure. The neighborhood is home to its own Grand Price Foodland supermarket, while Grand River Avenue also makes accessible the larger Tower Center Mall, which includes a Forman Mills department store and several other clothing shops. At the northern tip of Pride Area sits Galaxy Coney Island, the local franchise of Metro Detroit’s most famous comfort food brand. Open 24 hours, seven days a week, Galaxy Coney Island is locally cherished for its round-the-clock reliability and its good eats, from chili fries and burgers to breakfast omelets and sandwiches.

This neighborhood’s location just off Meyers Road also puts locals just eight blocks away from the Adams Butzel Complex, a one-stop shop for all athletic activities. Make use of the outdoor tennis, basketball, baseball, and playground activities, or head inside for a swim or a game of ice hockey.

Students attend the C-minus-rated Noble Elementary-Middle School and Central High School. Both schools have received high Niche rankings for the quality of their teachers, while Central is also known for strong extracurriculars and athletics, especially football.

Locals’ location just off Interstate 96 puts commuters within 9 miles of downtown Detroit, while Schaefer Road provides quick access to the cultural and culinary hub of Dearborn just 5 miles to the south. If you’re in the market for an up-and-coming neighborhood with excellent commutability and competitive housing prices, consider the Pride Area Community.
