Once home to a booming steel and shipping industry, Dundalk is now a suburban community right on the doorstep of Baltimore. It is home to over 65,000 people and to several large shipping deposits, including those for UPS and Walmart. Proximity to major thoroughfares is enjoyed by employers and residents alike. “We’re centrally located between downtown and Essex, with easy access to Interstate 95 and the Beltway,” says Mike Booz, a Realtor with Signature Realty and a lifelong resident of Dundalk. Despite offering quick access to the city's heart, Dundalk is zoned for county schools and is one of Baltimore County’s best-priced areas. The neighborhood’s 43 miles of waterfront and many public marinas attract those who love living on the water, while the plentiful green space will appeal to those who prefer dry land. The community offers something that is irreplaceable to those who call it home. “I’ve always believed in Dundalk,” Booz says. “I’ve been to at least half the states in America, but there’s something about Dundalk that keeps bringing you back.”

Down home in Dundalk
Dundalk comprises 24 subdivisions, interwoven by winding streets sporting a diverse collection of architectural styles. Modern Traditional homes with fenced-in yards and gardens, priced between $235,000 and $270,000, sit across the street from classic Baltimore red-brick rowhouses, which range from $145,000 to $190,000. Tudor Revivals, colonials, Victorians and duplexes can also be found scattered about the neighborhood, costing anywhere from $270,000 to $400,000. Its position across the county line from Baltimore makes Dundalk desirable. “People love the affordability,” Booz says. “It’s the least expensive part of Baltimore County.” Waterfront homes with access to Bear Creek can reach price points over $500,000, and many come with private docks.

Dundalk’s dining experience
Locals can shop for groceries at one of two Weis Markets in the neighborhood and pick up other necessities at the Walmart in North Point Plaza. Dundalk residents are spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurant options. “When I lived in Perry Hall, I missed the food the most. The carryout we have here is the best,” Booz says. The Boulevard Diner, built in 2001, is a neon-and-chrome callback to midcentury sensibilities, while the Hard Yacht Café buzzes with live music on the waterfront seven days a week and serves Maryland’s favorite seafood covered in Old Bay. “I would put Dundalk’s food up against any other city’s any day,” Booz adds. “That’s the real sleeper.”

Green spaces by the Baltimore harbor
There are no fewer than 20 parks in Dundalk where residents can enjoy outdoor recreation. One of the most popular is Stansbury Park. Locals can be found here fishing off the pier or walking their dogs around the mile-long looping trail. At Merritt Point Park, just up the road, children can swing from the monkey bars while their parents serve burgers and hot dogs at the picnic tables. “The parks are underutilized,” Booz says. “We have so many beautiful parks here, so it’s nice to see it when people do use them.” Dundalk is also just across Bear Creek from Sparrow’s Point Country Club, a private facility with a 27-hole course and a full-service marina.

Groups like Crack the Sky, legendary in the Baltimore area, have performed at the fair, which features concerts, vendors and food trucks in a three-day party leading up to the Fourth of July parade. “The parade is huge here,” Booz says. “People start lining up at 6 a.m., and half of Dundalk comes out to watch them march. It ends with fireworks over the bay.”
