Dunedin amenities and prices, Palm Harbor address
Laurel Oak Country Woods is a collection of subdivisions on the border of Palm Harbor and Dunedin. “People buy here for the Dunedin lifestyle,” says Realtor Andrew Cherry of Florida Seaside Realty, who has nearly two decades of real estate experience. The neighborhood offers easy access to the Pinellas Trail, a paved bike path that runs the length of Pinellas County. It’s also close to the coast and Honeymoon Island, one of Florida’s most visited state parks. “This is an active lifestyle, with more laidback, coastal and artsy vibes than you get in Palm Harbor, which is more of a gated, golf course community scene, with elite, big houses,” Cherry says.
Housing styles vary by subdivision
The neighborhood comprises several subdivisions, including Laurel Oaks, Country Woods, Waterford Crossing, Harbour Towne at Countrywoods and Honeymoon Park. Most single-family homes are New Traditional or ranch-style and priced anywhere from just under $590,000 to about $840,000. Condo units typically sell for between $155,000 and $395,000, while townhomes usually run from around $320,000 to $355,000. Prices for the manufactured homes in Honeymoon Park, an age-restricted community, start close to $70,000 and rise to about $150,000. “The closer you get to downtown Dunedin, the higher the price, so this area is for someone who wants the Dunedin vibe without the high Dunedin prices,” Cherry says.
Flooding and wind damage are concerns during hurricane season, but not all properties require flood insurance. Homes closer to the Smith Bayou are most impacted by storm surges. The neighborhood’s CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Outdoor recreation at Honeymoon Island State Park and more
Honeymoon Island State Park is about 3 miles west. With miles of white sand beaches and hiking trails through preserved pine forests, it’s one of the most visited state parks in Florida. “And even with visitor traffic, it’s only a few minutes from here. People go there to become one with nature, but they also do art programs and events and things there,” Cherry says. The annual Honeymoon Island State Park Island Fest is held in October, and features kids’ activities, food and artist vendors, and guided beach/trail walks. The Honeymoon Island Bluegrass Festival, with hours of live music performances, food vendors and a silent auction to benefit the Friends of the Island Parks nonprofit organization, is held every December. Dunedin Youth Guild Park, within a couple of miles of most homes, has a fishing pier on the Smith Bayou. Dunedin Golf Club’s public 18-hole course is also close to the community.
Highly rated Pinellas County Schools
Pinellas County Schools allows controlled open enrollment. San Jose Elementary, Palm Harbor Middle and Dunedin High are the area’s zoned schools. San Jose earns a B-plus from Niche, and Palm Harbor receives a B. The B-plus-rated Dunedin High School’s Academy of Architecture, Robotics & Construction Technologies offers three specialized STEM programs, including architecture, construction technology and engineering/robotics/STEAM. Plato Academy Palm Harbor is an A-minus-rated public charter school for kindergarten through eighth grade. It’s less than 2 miles away, between Temple Ahavat Shalom and St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church.
Close to groceries, other necessities and downtown Dunedin
For groceries, there’s a Publix near the corner of Curlew Road and Bayshore Boulevard. The busy area also has a Dollar General, a Walgreens, banks, beauty salons and restaurants like Happy Cactus Mexican Cocina and Seawhip Sushi Bar. Part of the Pinellas Trail parallels Bayshore Boulevard on its way south toward downtown Dunedin. It’s about a 3-mile jaunt, whether biking, walking or driving. “Main Street has all these little shops and restaurants. It gives ‘50s hometown, small-town vibes without all the cheesiness. Family-oriented, but artsy and progressive,” Cherry says. He recommends Casa Tina for classic Mexican fare and live entertainment, and The Black Pearl for date night. “The Black Pearl is a real high-end, beautiful fine dining place,” Cherry says. “You have to book way in advance because it’s very small, but it’s a real intimate, candle-lit, curated menu experience.”
Quick commuting to Dunedin destinations and Tampa
Curlew Road, or State Road 586, runs past the neighborhood’s south side, connecting with Bayshore Boulevard to the west and U.S. Route 19 to the east. Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority provides trolley service from stops on Bayshore Boulevard, with routes to destinations like city hall, Clearwater Beach and Mease Dunedin Hospital. The hospital, less than 5 miles away, is about a 15-minute drive. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and Tampa International Airport are within about 20 miles of most homes. Commuting to Tampa typically takes under 40 minutes in light traffic.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
