Just south of the Delaware River and 20 miles from Philadelphia is leafy, laidback East Greenwich Township. Boasting a population of over 11,000 people, East Greenwich offers residents a blend of rural and suburban living in proximity to city amenities.

East Greenwich’s suburban-style neighborhoods have wide, curving streets and tree-lined sidewalks. Here, you’ll see an array of architectural styles, which include Cape Cods, split levels, ranch homes, colonials and Queen Anne-style homes. These houses are typically set back on spacious lots averaging a half-acre. Lawns in this area commonly have a few mature trees and tidy landscaping, along with a paved driveway that fits multiple cars. In East Greenwich, a three-bedroom brick ranch home costs around $300,000, while a three-bedroom split level costs around $400,000.

Students in the area attend schools in the East Greenwich Township School District and Clearview Regional School District, which both receive overall grades of A-minus from Niche. These schools include Samuel Mickle Elementary School, Clearview Middle School and Clearview Regional High School. Clearview Regional High, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche, boasts a strong Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) department that hosts an annual showcase of student work.

For fresh air and exercise, head to Thompson Family Park on Wolfert Station Road. With many different sports fields, a playground, walking trails and a large dog park, there’s plenty to entertain everyone at this well-maintained park. Mickleton Park is another outdoor option in Greenwich Township, featuring a play area, a covered picnic shelter and plenty of open space to run around.

When hungry, head to Cinder Bar on Berkeley Road. This contemporary local restaurant serves American fare like burgers and pizza in an airy atmosphere complete with patio seating. If you’re craving something sweet, head a few blocks west to SUGARED By Sha, a modern dessert lounge where you can enjoy a wide variety of cupcakes and other sweets.

Though there are a handful of convenience stores in the township, you’ll have to travel further for a full grocery shop. Save A Lot, located on West Broad Street about a mile north of East Greenwich, is the closest supermarket, or you can check out Rosie’s Farm Market on Swedeboro Road, about a mile south of the township, for an abundance of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. When you want to shop at a big box store, you can head 7 miles north on the New Jersy Turnpike to land at Walmart.

For a small slice of unique local history, check out The Little Red Schoolhouse on Harmony Road. Built by Quakers in 1809, this small brick building served as the township’s only school for many years. After some renovations in the 1940s, it became a vibrant community center used for a range of local events.

With proximity to Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike running right through East Greenwich Township, it’s quick and easy to get across town and beyond. When the artsy energy of downtown Philadelphia starts to call, hop on 295 to land in the heart of the city in a half-hour.
