Established homes and new construction
Composed primarily of single-family ranch, split-level ranch and colonial-style houses that sell for between $335,000 and $1 million, the neighborhood has a stately, well-established feel, with tall pines and oak trees and homes set back off the road. “New construction accounts for many of the new condos in the neighborhood,” Raymond says, such as Middleberry, a senior living community with homes priced in the $800,000s, or River Farm Place, an all-age community with homes that list at $520,000. The lowest price point in the neighborhood is at Sun Valley Park, a mobile home community, with properties starting at $120,000.

Plenty of places to play
Adjacent to the high school with its tennis courts, football field, four baseball fields and skate park is Fry Brook Recreational Area. The site of a former gravel and sand plant, Fry Brook features a trail for walking and biking that winds its way across woods, fields and wetlands. Fry Brook runs through this area, filling up in the spring and drying out in the summer. Also available to residents is River Farm Fitness Park, a small green space along Franklin Road, close to the new River Farm Park condos, that features outdoor exercise stations. Fairfield Playground, too, hidden within a section of ranch-style homes, offers swings, jungle gyms and a unique funhouse with tunnels and slides. For a day on Greenwich Bay, residents head to Goddard Memorial State Park. With its public beach, nine-hole golf course, equestrian show area, 18 miles of bridle trails, and spacious lawns, fields and forested areas, Goddard is Rhode Island’s most popular metropolitan park.

Hot coffee to haute cuisine
For everyday needs, the neighborhood has shopping centers on either side of Frenchtown Road. Stop & Shop, the local supermarket, is across from Salk’s Ace Hardware & Marine. For restaurant choices, head north on Post Road and plan to stop at Providence Oyster Bar. This upscale eatery looks like a beach house from the outside with its white trim and outdoor patio. Inside, the deep wooden accents match the restaurant’s traditional fare, such as Oysters Rockefeller, and hold a few surprises, such as its hand-rolled sushi. Siena Restaurant, which features Tuscan cuisine, is another standout. The warm and homey atmosphere of this establishment is meant to resemble the kitchens and wine bars of Italy — a welcoming place for special occasions or any night you want to eat well and be cared for. Felicia’s Coffee is also just up the street, a place to meet friends, have your favorite beverage and enjoy a pastry, scone or cookie.
