Large colonial homes start at $1 million
Large colonial style homes are the predominant housing style in Tillinghast. Newer homes also incorporate new traditional and modern farmhouse styles. “There’s definitely families moving here because there’s such a great school system in East Greenwich,” Arbige says. Students typically attend East Greenwich Public Schools. Frenchtown Elementary School earned an outstanding A grade from Niche and is ranked the #1 best public elementary school in Rhode Island by the site. Archie R. Cole Middle School and East Greenwich High School also earned A grades. The high school had a nearly 94% 4-year graduation rate among its students in 2022, and 85% of its students enrolled in post-secondary education after high school.

Scenic water at Frenchtown Park and Goddard Memorial State Park
Locals can visit Frenchtown Park and Fryer Nature Preserve for a leisurely stroll on the trails. The pond and waterfalls of Frenchtown Brook offer scenic views and the sound of rushing water. Visitors can also discover the foundations of former mill buildings along the paths. Just four miles east, across from the downtown East Greenwich area, locals can take in views of the peaceful Greenwich Cove waterfront at Goddard Memorial State Park. The park has a public shore and an expansive trail system for walking, biking and horseback riding.
Annual Halloween parade and programs for all ages
East Greenwich is a family-oriented community that holds events year-round. One of East Greenwich’s largest events is its annual Halloween parade: “Everyone dresses up, not just kids. About 400 people march on Main Street up to Academy Field,” Arbige says. “We also have a great summer concert series at Academy Field on Thursdays throughout the summer, and on Tuesday evenings, we do a kid's concert series. We have entertainers like magicians come." East Greenwich has a very active recreation department that holds events like fitness classes for all ages; senior game nights, trips and other programming; crafting sessions; and special interest clubs for teens and adults.

For a sweet treat, Tillinghast locals can stop by Gigi’s Scoops for generous portions of ice cream and decadent sundaes. Down the road, the waterfront in Downtown East Greenwich has a variety of locally owned, fine-dining restaurants overlooking the water. “Take your pick of restaurants on the waterfront—you’re not going to get a bad one,” Arbige says. Options include Besos Tapas & Wine Bar, serving shareable plates of seafood, steaks and more, and La Masseria RI, serving Italian cuisine and wine in a space reminiscent of an Italian cottage.

Just south of Providence
Tillinghast is about 17 miles south of Providence. “East Greenwich is smack dab in the middle of Rhode Island. It’s rural, but it’s close to the city,” Arbige says. Locals can access Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport and Rhode Island Hospital in Providence via I-95. Residents can daytrip to New York City, 170 miles southeast, or Boston, 70 miles northeast.
