The township of East Hanover is a small suburban enclave bordered by Interstate 280 to the north, and the Troy Meadows wetlands, a large freshwater marsh, to the west. At 25 miles from New York City, East Hanover has proven to be an attractive area for corporate offices like Novartis and those looking for large residential homes. "Nobody wants to leave East Hanover once you're here," says Gloria LaForgia, a sales agent for Weichert Realtors and team lead of the Gloria LaForgia Real Estate Team who has lived in East Hanover since 1988. "It's a very family-oriented area. Whoever moves here stays a long time."

Variety of housing styles, but low inventory
While housing styles offer some variety, inventory in general in East Hanover is scarce. In the older section of the neighborhood split-level, bi-level and ranch-style homes can be found, and newer residential streets are dotted with colonials. A smaller 1950s-era ranch house can cost $700,000. Larger colonial or split-level homes can run $750,000 to $820,000. Brand new homes can go for more than $1 million. A few townhouses, such as those near the Pinch Brook Golf Course, can be found in the $700,000 range.
Restaurants along Route 10, plus Costco and Hope Depot
Numerous restaurants can be found along Route 10. The family-owned East Hanover Diner serves classic diner dishes, Greek specialties and house-made pastries and cakes. Office workers can find Thai and Japanese cuisine alongside The Godfather Brick Oven Pizzeria & Seafood Bar & Grill as popular lunch spots. East Hanover Plaza serves as a large central shopping area with Target, REI, Home Depot, Costco and other retail stores. Groceries can be found nearby at ALDI supermarket.
Annual events including the May carnival
Joseph G. Lurker Park is the community's gathering spot. "There are a lot of activities for families during the year," LaForgia says. The park hosts summer concerts, a Memorial Day parade, East Hanover Day and a trunk or treat for Halloween. The annual May carnival features numerous rides as well as festival food classics like funnel cakes and fried Oreos.
Lurker Park plus Troy Meadows wetlands
Lurker Park has baseball fields and a walking path, and sits next to the East Hanover Township Pool. Further west, Troy Meadows is a 2600-acre preserve that allows for hiking, bird-watching and wildlife spotting. Numerous streams, including the Whippany River run through the wetlands.
Schools with strong academics and athletics
Students can attend Central Elementary, which has an A minus rating from Niche, for pre-K and grades three through five. For kindergarten through second grade, Frank J. Smith Elementary School has a B plus rating from Niche, and a student-teacher ratio of 11 to one. East Hanover Middle School offers arts and athletics programs and earns an A minus from Niche. Hanover Park High School is rated one of the top 25% best high schools for athletes in New Jersey, with an A minus rating from Niche. It’s been recognized for the number of students taking AP exams.
Major roads, plus bus connections
Major roads are very accessible to drivers, with Interstate 280 running along the neighborhood’s northern edge. Buses offer service along Route 10, with trains connecting to Manhattan from Orange, New Jersey. From East Hanover, Newark Liberty International Airport is about 20 miles away.
