Center Park is a suburban gateway to city highlights

Center Park is a suburban neighborhood in East Point that's filled with vintage homes once occupied by 19th-century rail workers. The community's name comes from the man who ran the commercial development department for the Atlanta and West Point Railroad at that time. But today, the "center" part of Center Park takes on a new meaning. "It's really close to a thriving downtown district with pizza places, breweries, a dog park, little shops and restaurants," says Realtor and broker associate Juli St George, of Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta, who has over a decade of experience. The location, combined with its relative affordability compared to Atlanta, is leading to a resurgence of outside interest in Center Park. Other major draws include the neighborhood's proximity to Woodward Academy, an extremely popular private school, and Tyler Perry Studios, a major area employer.

Center Park's vintage homes

Properties in Center Hill settle along gently rolling streets designed in a grid formation. Some are freshly renovated and look brand-new despite being from the 1920s. Setbacks from the road are short, and concrete paths connect sidewalks to small front porches. Minimal traditional and farmhouse-style bungalows and cottages are common here. A small number of new homes also exists — some mirroring the look of vintage homes, others built in a brick neo-traditional style. Prices range from around $170,000 for an investment property to the mid-$500,000s for new construction. However, the sweet spot for most homes is the $200,000 to $300,000 range. According to Anna Wheeler, a 20-year Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Metro Atlanta, the neighborhood isn't prone to flooding or other weather extremes.

Parents move here for Woodward Academy

Center Park is served by the Fulton County Schools district, but the state offers school choice and along with it more schooling options for families. Students may begin at Conley Hills Elementary School, which earns a C-plus on Niche, before filtering into the C-plus-rated Paul D. West Middle School and the C-rated Tri-Cities High School. St George says some parents buy second homes in Center Park just to live there five days a week and send their kids to nearby Woodward Academy. The academy is known for its highly personalized approach to curriculum and serves students from prekindergarten to 12th grade. The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, about 3 miles north, offers learners a quiet place to study.

Traffic is lighter south of Atlanta

Being south of Atlanta means traffic is better for commuters, Wheeler says, adding that Center Park offers quick access to all the major highways in the area. Main Street runs along the neighborhood's eastern side and is dotted by bus stops. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is around 3 miles following that route. It's about a 7-mile drive to downtown Atlanta following U.S. State Route 29. Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown are within 10 miles via Interstate 75.

Crime prevention skits through the East Point Police Department

Center Park's CAP Index Crime Score is 5 out of 10 versus the national average of 4. In 2024, Grammy winner Killer Mike, an Atlanta native, worked with the East Point Police Department and Tri-Cities High School's performing arts department to produce crime prevention skits. Designed to re-create actual crime events in the area and showcase the consequences to promote better decision-making, these performances were recorded for maximum outreach and broadcast across social media platforms. “Killer Mike does so much in the communities here and you can also see him walking around Home Depot,” St George says.
